Hi @freemo and @trinsec !
Today a friend told me that he cannot me here.. any idea why?
I know that mastodon.art is blocking , but... shouldn't he be able to follow people anyway when they visit the profile?
his handle is [@pixeltrain3d](mastodon.art/@pixeltrain3d)

error is:
`Unfortunately, there was an error looking up the remote account`

No. If your server blocks another server, you cannot follow anyone on that other server.
Mastodon.art is very block-heavy.
(This is where the subscribe feature of Qoto would've come in handy, but alas he's not on Qoto)

@freemo @pixeltrain3d

@trinsec @freemo this is very and very aggressive from the part of blocking servers... I was sure blocking was about not seeing blocked instances posts if not by direct link or not being able to find people if not by direct too.. but this is makes me feel like they are being the mid school bully... And don't know, ai just hate those .... They basically decide what people can or cannot do at a larger scale...

Obviously my vision was wrong .. thanks for clarifying why he could not follow me, even though, I can subscribe to him ^^

@frayoshi
This is why Qoto has a general no-block stance unless it is very warranted (breaking law, network attacks, mass harassment, etc)

Yes, that subscribe feature is very handy. :)

You could ask your friend to have a 2nd account somewhere else where they're not so block-heavy.

@freemo

@trinsec @freemo I was more thinking about creating a solo instance of mine, where I mirror things I post on qoto... I see that other people are doing the same thing here and there ^^

@frayoshi Plenty of people having solo instances or for very small groups. If you have the time and resources to spare, go for it. Can even experiment with the various platforms there are around, not just Mastodon.
