@tonwood It usually does the job of a ctrl+click. In my case it'd be easily opening a link in a new tab, and I use that a lot.
In games it has various purposes. The most common one being able to pan in a map.
You sure you don't have a middle button? Usually there's a scroll wheel, and you can use it as a button too by pressing on it.
@tonwood I think I have that one in my tech closet. I really hate devices without scroll wheels. I have the M570 myself, also a trackball.
The two tiny buttons, I'm going to wage a guess they might be backward/forward buttons? The M570 has 2 seperate small buttons with that functionality.
Oh wait, the Arch Linux manual says about this Marble one that the small buttons are enabling scroll wheel functionality. Might be worth looking into that, heh.
@trinsec Ah, they do indeed work as forward/back in browser.
@trinsec my Logitech Marble Mouse (trackball) has left/right buttons plus two tiny ones whose function(s) I have never learned; possibly in MacOS they do nothing.
