Is there a way to see which servers have blocked or muted qoto? I realize not being seeing that many posts from people I follow who are on other instances and I’m told that they are not able to see me any longer. It’s also rather strange to be on waiting-lists for people I regularly interacted elsewhere. My main motivation to come over here was to keep in touch with all those fine people I like but left Twitter, and to find a much more friendly space.

Here's an interesting chip: a Soviet clone from 1987 of the famed Intel 8086 microprocessor (1978). Although the Soviet Union had their own microprocessors, they were years behind and mostly copied Western chips. 🧵

Hi #writers ! Bummed out by the latest #IA #writing developments? Well, let me cheer you up with my pal #ItaloCalvino who already had a hot take on this issue back in 1967. 🧵

GNU troff is a powerful yet lesser-known #typesetting system that can serve as an alternative to LaTeX. It is much faster and a good choice when performance is important. Use it by specifying `--pdf-engine=pdfroff` or `--to=ms` when converting to #PDF.

It seems that some component (?) considers *all* lines starting with “Date:” as message dates, but of course with all the TOFU, there are tons of matching lines—but the rest isn’t conformant. I’ve already fixed those that follow some pattern, but there are tons that are completely off (like “Date: 3 f=C3=A9vrier 2022 =C3=A0 11:23:21 UTC+1”).

Of course, all of this could have been avoided by not migrating to hell and its oh-so-modern authentication.

Hi #histodons, especially of the #EnvHist #HistSTM persuasion, there's a postdoc opening in Geneva with @brunostrasser and Jerome Baudry for someone working on the
history of technologies for living in toxic environments (19th - 20th centuries).

It's a 1-3 year position in the SNF-funded project "Breathing Modernities: Masks, Industry, and Toxic Environments (1830s-1970s)."

Feel free to get in touch with Bruno directly for more info.

One straightforward way of dealing with systems like or in is to directly confront students with an LLM-generated answer and have them critique it.
This is in fact be much better aligned with what we want to teach. Remembering and recalling facts isn’t an important skill anymore, but is essential for a future in which graduates will work side by side with “.”

Just when I thought I maybe had a working setup, suddenly decides that it is “unable to parse INTERNALDATE format” in some message in some folder :-(

Hurrah! Ultra excited to have this out (I started work on it in 2019).
