Wow, this tired canard again.

Kalthoff repeater~1630
Lorenzoni repeater~1650
Lagatz Rifle~1700
Puckle gun 1718
Harmonica gun 1742
Cookson repeater 1750
Fafting Rifle 1774
and more...

The founding fathers were well aware of guns more powerful than muskets when the 2A was written. It's a tired argument that the SCOTUS has rejected numerous times already.

If you truly believed that the exercise of our constitutional rights should be limited to only those means available at the time of the signing, then why aren't you apparently concerned that the 1A is being exercised with instruments and by means not available at the time of the founding fathers?

No 1A protections for; telegraph, radio, television, computer networks, Twitter, nor Mastodon to name a few.

Oh, you just want to apply limitations to those fundamental rights *you* personally disagree with?

Fortunately for the rest of us, the law isn't on your side.

@No_One@kolektiva.social @RobynCaplan

you really should re-acquaint yourself with the following SCOTUS rulings:

District of Columbia v. Heller

New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen

in the constitutional context of the 2A, arms equates to firearms.

there's no constitutional right to bear nunchaku, knives, swords, or baseball bats, so that wouldn't be unconstitutional.

the fact that you don't like firearms and the companies that make money manufacturing that completely legal product doesn't change that simple fact.

constitutional law isn't influenced by your incredulity.

what is? boosted

I haven't seen those yet, but that really does sound like overreacting. Better would be to regulate how you're allowed to collect data and severely fine companies breaking the rules. Then it would work for all apps independent of its name or owner.

@RobynCaplan
this country can't "ban guns" as that would be an unconstitutional overreach.

why is it that folks like yourself use every gun tragedy to push for these "feel good" but ultimately ineffective additional restrictions?

wouldn't it be much more productive to try and figure out why people seem to feel the need to murder their fellow citizens in ever larger numbers in recent years?

I am always amazed that folks with such visceral objections to firearms never seem to want to make the effort to repeal or amend the 2nd amendment.

as for TikTok bans, I believe that's nothing more than political theater. it won't solve the issues they claim it will. the only thing that will would be effective data and privacy regulations in this country that are aggressively enforced.

that won't happen as long as we prioritize corporate profits and warrantless access to our data over public safety.

@SpinozasHeresy
perhaps someday people will stop using these tragedies as a means to push their pet weapons bans.

we need to get to the root of just why so many individuals feel the need to express their anger or frustration by killing their fellow citizens.

I feel that until we address the underlying societal failures, incidents like this will keep happening.

Even if every firearm were banned.

@rdaily
not always though....

I've always been a fan of comparative religions.

@trinsec
hopefully, as I get more familiar with mastodon, I'll be able to report things the correct way.

thanks again for all of your help.

@trinsec

if it becomes a regular thing I just might.

odd, just started today. every so many minutes a woman's name from mastadon.top would follow me with a suggestive profile pic, and an obfuscated link in the bio.

I got tired of having to remove them from following me just to have another semi-random account start following again.

@trinsec

thanks, searching for that handle from here did the trick, the three dot menu was available and I selected to block the entire domain.

I hope that's the last I see of these spam followers. At least from that server.

@hasmis
apparently Portland, Oregon in the states is having similar problems. The county district attorney apparently believes that prosecuting shop lifting is racist and discriminatory and so doesn't even bring charges against most shoplifters. The shoplifters know this and are quite brazen.

Apparently Wal-Mart is closing both of it's stores in the city and a number of other retailers are doing the same.

@trinsec

I am trying to find out how to block the domain, but like I noted previously the person running that instance looks to have disabled the entire three dot menu, even on the admin's page itself.

All the documentation states that I need to use the three dot menu on the offending instance in order to access the block domain function. Without that menu being activated, is there another way?

thanks again.

@trinsec
and right on queue here's another one.

@ gambkallyron@mastodon.top

it appears that the three button menu is disabled on these pages. :/

@trinsec
good to know.
I can't seem to find the way to block an instance from my preferences page. A quick google search mentions either a setting in preferences or creating a specially named file that needs to be uploaded somewhere.

If you can share the directions for this instance, that would be appreciated.

thanks.

p.s. I've already Tooted the admin at mastadon.top asking him to look into this.

@thomas_virtubox

why are these spam accounts coming from your instance?

ex: @ tiochrisoron@mastodon.top

can you please police your instance?

thanks.

@trinsec
thanks, I've just got another one:

@ tiochrisoron@mastodon.top

the first one was from mastadon.top as well. Is this a known problematic instance?

thanks again.

I see the scammers and bots are here as well.

Just got 'followed' by an account with an x-rated bio.

unfollowed (I think that's the mastodon term) of course.

Ugg....

@malwaretech

I would imagine it's because while the Dems have a solid economic stance, they keep committing self goals when it comes to cultural issues.

Most everyday working class Americans don't want to deal with people claiming that sex f/m isn't real. Their daughters being forced to share locker rooms with biological boys. Their daughters having to compete in girls sports against biological boys. They don't want to worry about what, other than academic subjects their elementary school age children are being taught in public schools. They don't appreciate people telling them what to say. And they especially are tired of hearing that anytime there's the smallest of disagreement with the Democratic parties platform that they are racist or *-phobic.

There may be less of that happening than they see and hear online or in their local media, but it does exist and the Democratic party is openly supporting it. The Republican party is amplifying to distract from their abysmal economic policies.

I think too many folks think, the Dems have this wonderful economic messaging, how could a poor or working class person object to it? What they don't take into account that cultural issues as just as important, if not more so, for a large block of the voting public.

@empiricism yep, got that. Original post that I was responding to was taking a map-centric up is north, down is south point of view.
