The James Webb telescope was successfully launched today and should reach its location (L2, orbiting the sun) in about a month. Astronomers are looking forward to seeing more light from the early universe.
Meanwhile, billions of people celebrate the light coming into our dark world some 2000 years ago.

Incompetence
@zpartacoos How about treating these people the same way you'd like to be treated by someone who thinks *you* are incompetent? 😉 E.g., help them to grow in competence.
When I post a link to a post here on Twitter, it shows my profile picture, part of the link, and not much else. Can this be improved or is Twitter deliberately making Mastodon links unpalatable to its users? #twitter #interoperability #adoption
Just posted a Mastodon invitation link (available on the server's home page) on Twitter and Facebook. Feels a bit like when I WhatsApped my relatives asking them to join me on Signal. Expecting #tumbleweed ...
@life Greetings from another follower of Jesus. This vlog from Simon Guillebaud is very encouraging https://standrewsbookshop.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=973a2057ae42a17f46ac9d1c5&id=08c9074a72&e=fa7fe1bc1c
Meanwhile on Ohio...
Police have arrested a man in Akron, Ohio for stealing a pedestrian bridge.
@be @janek @teleclimber Another option would be to specify and/or standardise Zulip's protocol (I assume this hasn't already been done!) and then develop independent implementations of clients and/or servers.
This treasure trove of (freely available) computer science research papers, each summarised in an insightful blog post by Adrian Colyer, may be of interest: https://blog.acolyer.org/ #compsci #research #themorningpaper
@teleclimber interoperation between multiple independent implementations could be another criterion for software that will stand the test of time.
@freemo So it turns out I can follow these accounts using the web interface. The problem appears to be with Tusky when using my qoto.org account. I've opened a discussion thread (https://github.com/tuskyapp/Tusky/discussions/2276) to see if there's an issue. Cheers.
@freemo Oh I meant it was unlikely to be explicitly blocked after just having being created.
Anyway, turns out I can't follow others from here, so it's a more general issue!
@FediFollows @snikket_im @xmpp @matrix @delta @briar @Jami I wonder what advantage closed source has in preventing spam. If it is something like intelligent spotting of spam accounts, which would be compromised by making it open, perhaps Signal could support an extension point which could then be plugged using closed source. Then the *intention* would be clear in the open source.
@freemo Thanks! Seems strange because I only just created this account and can follow them fine from another server. Oh well...
Why can't I follow @rust from here?
