Would it be possible to build a decentralized alternative to the DNS?

@valleyforge my point is "decentralized" doesn't say what you actually want - there's a lot of definitions that fit, including current DNS

@valleyforge if centralized is where all clients that use the service access servers under one domain of control, then decentralized would be where clients can access the service from servers under diverse domains of control. ex: You can use Google's nameservers and I can use my ISP's and we both get DNS

The DNS seems to be the central source of trust that many decentralized projects are based on.
