I'm comfortable with command line in general, but this process of rescue disk to cryptsetup to mounting to recover encrypted data from a non-booting system ... this is flirting with lower level than I've ever dealt with before
@worldsendless It's great that this can be done.
@AmpBenzScientist definitely sparking hope
@worldsendless It happened to me a few times because I like to custom compile kernels. I was able to recover every time. This was around 5 years ago so I'm sure it has gotten better.
Tough to try to carve a drive with encrypted data. I've never messed with it before. Do those schemes blockchain across sectors or can you decrypt an isolated sector with the key?
@Pat I seem to have been able to get the whole disk with `cryptsetup open`. It was tremendous
Did you need to supply the key to that utility?
