@torresjrjr @savjee@masmsddn.io With this guide, how many people hang out in IRC ? I am asking as would it be worth, at a set time each week a group of us being in an IRC channel to answer questions about Mastodon / Fediverse. ?
It may help bring people over if they could talk to someone and ask questions. It is easy enough to put a widget on a website and then publish a link, (we can do this with my blog as I have a widget on there),
Is there a free software equivalent of say meet up, ?
@Demosthenes @torresjrjr I am on freenode, but I surely q/a is not marketing, there is a #libreoffice channel for support / questions.
We are not selling anything, if on IRC it woudl actually promote freenode, but I do see your point.

Yeah. Also, normies don't use IRC, so a user-friendly thelounge.chat instance would probably help greatly.
@torresjrjr @Demosthenes Well it was just an idea, if we can find a platform people can use, I know there are friendly interfaces to IRC.

Music to my ears. I have a plethora of thoughts on this, on how we do it, why, etc. I should probably distill them in some blog posts.
I'll say: I believe the biggest challenge we face right now is simply having people know and understand how the Fediverse works. That's why I carefully choose my first 30 seconds of words explaining just that.
So I encourage peple to do the same. Quick, simple and clear.
@torresjrjr @Demosthenes Good point, I think a Major selling point is the federation I can watch and reply to your peer tube video from Mastodon or peertube. I think either way the counter reflects number of views regardless of the platform viewed on.
@zleap @torresjrjr most IRC networks and channels have rules against marketing and spamming, so be careful with this. You might try becoming a regular at one of the big channels on Freenode before trying this.
