@sarvo @nova what is this fedi thing you're talking about? I've only ever used mastodon

Weird why in the world would QOTO be on here. We have very clear anti-hate speech rules and enforce it strictly.

Indeed I have found this instance safe and friendly

@freemo @zleap @meeper @nova @sarvo @waifu Same here, as far as I can tell, having browsed qoto.org in depth and breath, I have only found good vibes, an excellent atmosphere, lots of academics recently joined (I happen to be one), and great features too not available elsewhere (here is to hoping these aren't too hard to rebase on top of the new mastodon release). Thanks so much for running this instance!

@zleap @freemo @meeper @nova @sarvo @waifu I've generally found people ON qoto to be very friendly and supportive.

I was attacked a while ago by Nazis (literally, with swastikas in their profiles) from other servers that qoto federates with, but blocking a few of those servers myself seems to have solved the problem.

@peterdrake

There are about a dozen really bad actors, once you block those servers you cover the bulk of the content. Works well. The main reason we **dont** block servers was at the LGBTQ's communities request. At the time Milo was on Gab and they used accounts here to follow him so they could see when he doxxed someone and use it to warnt he community (as was the norm at the time and a big deal). In fact its why we added the subscribe feature, specifically so they could follow people without being identifiable as doing so.

Its one reason we dont block, its like putting blocks in a web browser, it hurts the victims too.

I prefer the no block policy too, if I don't like what someone has said I can block them manually.

But it also shows that there is good / bad content out there, and people need to get used to that fact, hiding it doesn't make that simply go away
