#introduction Hi! I am Stevie, brand new here but on the internet for a long old time. I play a lot of videogames and TTRPGs and i stream. I'm also autistic, nonbinary but with no dislike of female pronouns (so im not a woman but you can call me one if you must). I am a lesbian. I am just another twitch affiliate who wants to grow but with no stable schedule. I like to think i am friendly and would love to make some friends here!

The U.S. Supreme Court is a dumpster fire.
-- Supreme Court justices used personal emails for work
-- ‘burn bags’ were left open in hallways,
-- Staff afraid to confront justices on bad security practices
Here's the news story:

A little Egret looking for fish in the silvery waters of Floodplain Forest Lake.
The grey skies strip the colour from the scrubland, but I'm kind of liking the silver waters that occur.

Two things here for you to see. Are they connected?
1. In 2018, Google dropped "Don't be evil" as its corporate motto and removed that famous phrase from its Code of Conduct.
https://gizmodo.com/google-removes-nearly-all-mentions-of-dont-be-evil-from-1826153393
2. Now, in 2023, Google is selling ads that spread climate denial, thereby not only making $60 million for itself but also helping giant oil companies and their investors to promote disinformation in hopes of continuing business-as-usual for as long as possible.

Is Google evil? You be the judge.

@jrtwynam I bet it is creepy on halloween, or in the fog.
One of the hobbies I developed when social distancing was a thing was exploring ghost towns and abandoned places. This is one of the most well-known abandoned homes in Ontario, possibly Canada, known as the Guyitt Homestead. The lawn surrounding the house is still maintained, but the house is falling apart.
My first #FollowFriday, hope I am doing it right.

Pretty soon @TheConversationUS will have more followers on #mastodon after 9 days than we have accumulated on TikTok in 18 months.
Could you help us get to 1159 by boosting this toot and telling your friends about the work we do?

I just noticed I still own the 'mastodon.press' domain 🤔 I got it a while ago before the massive birb migration but I concluded it was a failed project since it got stamped into the ground
Pretty sure the domain can be used now for journalists or news outlets or something?
I'm not gonna fire up another instance so I am willing to tranfser it! But it has to be used and not sold or something, that makes me feel like a clown

Problem with jokes is, it may be funny to one person but offensive to another. It is how the other person or even someone who overhears interprets what is said.
THere is a word in school, misconstrued, where a statement can be taken a number of ways, I could have a conversation about a strategy game with a child in a school. If I say "If I hit you hard enough you don't recover, then keep hitting you" then I stand a better chance of winning.
Taken out of context could suggest I want to physically hit a child, and not in the case of a computer game, attack your base for example.
Of course with jokes, they are well known so you can explain the situation to both parties. If a statement is being used in jest, then you may have to explain what you meant.

Yes, the wonderful EU, free trade, free movement good laws such as GDPR and bad stuff like this. You can't have one without the other.
The proposed EU law Chat Control will not only create a centralized mass surveillance system and violate people's privacy. It will also ban open source operating systems as an unintended consequence.
If and when this law goes into effect it would make illegal the open source software services underpinning the majority of services and infrastructure on the internet.

Agreed, we really do need to figure out what we mean by colonise as many people here will refer to what White Europeans mean by that, and to a point White Americans if we look at Native American genocide, slavery and racism.
Or in terms of Musk / Bezos, exploitation of workers

I am all for exploring, setting up bases to help with research but beyond that we need to be careful.
@zleap Thanks for the recommendation and the boost, Paul!
No problem.
Bill Gates would rather pay for vaccines than travel to Mars
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-64499635)
I am writing an article on my website about this, but focus more on the statements about colonising mars and ask what that means in terms of the fact both Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk want to do this, trying to examine their track record in business given the exploitation and general treatment of workers. Are they the best people to do this, and given history of White Europeans, what exactly do we mean by colonise.
