@ashton This is a true reflection of how the west is in 2022 going in to 2023, boosting for reach, so people know about this sort of thing.
Time for some real changes.
In the richest nation on earth, a man died in the freezing cold Mississippi woods on Christmas Day while trying to walk home to his family.
They had been unable to wire money to him or help him get a bus ticket because he didn’t have a current ID.

@atomicpoet Just spotted something on the Daily Mail website
The 'dead celebrity' TikTok trend that is leaving parents in tears and children in fits of giggles: Viral prank that pretends stars such as Cher, Robbie Williams and Jon Bon Jovi have died
Do we want these platforms to die, the result could be this sort of thing coming on to the Fediverse, ?

Now that Christmas is over, it's officially time start sharing #horror movie posters again, right? 😜
I've reached the point where I'm not sure what I've shared on here already, but I think it's always nice for new followers to see them regardless. Plus I get asked a lot if I've made a poster for The Thing, so here it is - along with #Hellraiser 🖤

Western media seems to cover what is in their interest to cover or in the interest of those who are funding that news network
I saw something about children working in Cobalt mines, why would the media cover that, when this and similar minerals are essential to big tech. It would really upset big tech companies if it get out they are still profiting at the hands of poorly paid people or even children.

I agree, this seems to have been what happened when victims of the earthquake in Haiti, arrived in the US.
So lets kill them off by a) producing content that is varied and going to get people here
b) promoting the fact that making huge profits off your data is not something that will happen
c) creating a place where people can make money from posting their art or creativity BUT it is more of a place for the smaller creators too
d) make running services cost effective so those that run services are actually able to live, buy food, clothing, pay rent etc
And Twitter isn't alone in my contempt.
The following social media needs to be dead buried too:
* Facebook
* WhatsApp
* Instagram
* TikTok
* YouTube
All of them are awful.
All of them need to die.

@atomicpoet
I am in the 2nd group too,
I want to find people / articles etc of interest, interact with people and feel like I am part of something.
Twitter was far more of an echo chamber, at least here we can have conversations or should be able to do so.
@atomicpoet The other problem is trying to convince people of that and get them over to the fediverse.
Do you know that there's a search engine for videos across all Peertube instances?
It's called Sepia Search!
Republican George Santos admits lying on his CV

If anyone else did this and lied on their CV they would be disciplined and sacked by their employer.
So why do politicians seem to get away with it, or think they can.

In someways,, the COVID is over stuff is similar to these conflicts in that no longer in the news, no longer happening.
I would hope that the Fediverse can help to change all that, as we can keep sharing what is happening right now.
When the taliban retook Afghanistan, there was a huge earthquake in Haiti, the former took over the news, the latter was briefly mentioned than forgotten about until refugees arrived in the US, then that hit the headlines which ended up more that the were there illegally rather than trying to flee a natural disaster.
@ariherzog @jkosseff Indeed, and this way of thinking doesn't seem to work on platforms such as Twitter / Facebook.
