America’s ultra-rich are sitting on $8.5 trillion in untaxed capital gains.

Even on money that is taxed, the rich are making out like bandits.

In 41 states, the top 1% pay lower tax rates than everyone else.

When I say the system is rigged for the wealthy, this is what I mean.

I don't normally ask for boosts, but I have just LEAPED out of my comfort zone and set up my own gamejam, specifically for users of the Fediverse, and I'm scared shitless that nobody else will join, turning this into one giant embarrassment for me.

So if you want to do me a giant favor, please boost (and even better: join!) this: mastodon.gamedev.place/@fedi_j PLEASE! 🥺 🙏

@davep

Would the same thing happen with a Gopher ?

@DrALJONES

Indeed, I watched the Yesterday series on Aushwitz, the Nazis and the final solution, some take aways from that were.

There was an opportunity to use a train to help jews escape europe, but despite knowing the danger I think it was the British who were a barrier to this happening, so those jews ended up I think meeting their fate at a concentration camp.

We were apparently repatriating jews to Palestine even during the war, or at least that region, where they were attacked by, Hitler was happy for this to simply carry on.

I am not sure how much the Allies knew about what was happening, until the liberation of the camps.

A few years ago I was sent some flyers on space careers by UKspace, mostly for the STEM event at the local library, that I was running, I had made some available in the main library, too. These were down there for some time, with very little indication of iterest.

Last week I dropped some off to a new STEAM cafe and discovery centre in Paignton, only just opened, within a few days they had pretty much all gone, which shows how putting flyers in the right place is key, I am dropping more down later, so hopefully this will inspire more people to look in to space and related career options.

@gwynnion

Over the past few years (probably a lot longer in fact) girls have outperformed boys many subjects in schools, so they both attend the same lessons, with the same materials and the same teachers (who can differentiate according to needs of the learner) so why is this gap there? Perhaps it is attitude of the learner, and in many case they have only themselves to blame.

While not perfect we have the internet and some fantastic websites for learning, we have access to libraries and computer access, schools can run homework clubs for students to complete study and get help if needed.

At one time we had none of this and if we struggled we just struggled and scaped through usually.

#Russia is likely testing #Poland's air defense system, Polish Brigadier General Tomasz #Drewniak told Radio RMF24 on Aug. 27, after a likely Russian drone flew into Polish airspace on Aug. 26 amid a mass attack on# Ukraine.

"By releasing the device onto our territory, the Russians are checking how our system is raised, at what time we raise the alert forces into the air," General Drewniak said.

I watched a documentary a while back on the creation of isreal, it seems at the time neither the US or the UK wanted post war jewish refugees, so israel was created, when the Palestians objected and a small group did so using violence, the British just got out and abandoned the situation.

@fulelo

Surely this needs to be backed up with international investment in the country, once you have removed gangs, you need to create better opportunities for people with high standards of education and high standards of employment, as in good wages, good training to make it more viable to stay in that employment.

A few years ago, the Taliban retook afghanistan, IIRC at the time there was a hurricane or something in Haiti, which from the Uk took a back seat on the news, clearly was not important enough to take most of the news time. This sort of thing needs to change so countries such as Haiti can thrive.

@realcaseyrollins@social.teci.worl

Is this a geographical thing. Hitler was German and tried to take over Europe, so those of us in Europe are going to be far more aware and affected by what Hitler and the Nazis did in Europe and the wider world.

Mao was more recent, and was in China, Stalin was in Russia, and yes the USSR did extend far more east than it does now, so maybe it is how people see things from a historical context, ask people in say Poland or even Ukraine what they make of stalin and you may get different responses.

So your feelings towards these 3 people could be down to education, upbringing, family, where you lived or where your ancestors lived.

@newz

Are there any stats to show the education level and what type of work members of the AfD and others are in? From the article Jenoptics needs overseas workers (other than the fact that things allows world wide sharing of skills) because they can't get people locally with those skills, surely the answer for the AfD woud be to have a policy that promotes STEM and the very skills people need to work at these companies along side the diverse workforce they employ. Being a world wide company this allows for intercompany work where people may go to other facilities to share or learn from other facilities (it opens up doors). I don't think even with the best education system will get to the point where companies don't bring people in, but if we develop / train our own workforces as different facilities may have their own specailims.

@kangaroo5383@mastodon.
CSAM is child sexual abuse material,

@Skembear

I don't want to stop communication but surely we need to hold people accountable. Esp around mis information or illegal content

@ct_bergstrom

If people can't write reports themselves, they need a different job

@petealexharris @quinn @ct_bergstrom

yeah, good point, also only ass good as what we feed in to it, if we could just train it on proper fact based information it may help rather than scraping every website regardless of content
