@zleap @sean @sj_zero @gretathunberg I totally agree, and would go so far as to say that battling to have our voices heard by the corps is a distraction and a waste of time.
What we should be doing is building the solutions we need ourselves.
Let's face it, they're not interested
The FAW official video for the World Cup includes a monster truck load of Welsh politics. A not exhaustive list of what it shows:
Treweryn
Gwynfor Evans
The Miners' Strike
The Betty Campbell statue
Protests over monolingual English only signs
and the '97 referendum result

For everyone here: I read there is a shortage of instances run by women admins. I know a few already, but I love to know more. I am one for one, but
https://vis.social/about/more and I thought https://mastodon.art/about/more is one too.
Mine i https://socialserver.science/about/more and is mainly aimed at scientists and scientific visualizers.
Please boost!

If you're curious about #IceHockey then this could be a good place to start.
European hockey comes to Cardiff Bay 18 to 20 November 2022 as #CardiffDevils host the third round of the IIHF Continental Cup.
Day passes give you two matches for £20. Bargain!
So if any server admin types are interested, it should be pretty easy* to run an instance of my RSS to ActivityPub converter as a nice bonus for your users. It lets people with a login on your Mastodon or Hometown server create ActivityPub accounts that are mirrors of RSS feeds (process pictured in attachments). ONLY people with a login to your server can use it, because you don't want to moderate this service for randos

"A point was made recently that celebs probably don't give a shit about local cultural norms. Most comedians in particular make their trade by working against established norms."
This is a good point.
We're going to need to push back hard against this kind of antisocial behaviour by celebrities and comedians, to keep the Fedi a nice place to be
How cool is it that you don't have to play mind games with some stupid algorithm when sharing things on here? I can put a link to an external site in a toot and don't have to think about how it might affect anything. Love it.
A new job, a new instance, a new #introduction.
Hi, I'm Jim. 👋
🎓 I study epistemic practices in #ecology and #AI, their tensions and interconnections, and how they help us to think about the roles of #knowledge, #ignorance and #expertise in society. In September this year, I began a two-year postdoc in the Department of Technology and Society at Lund University.
While my research is in #STS, I am not so well embedded in the field. I've previously held positions in #geography, #sociology and #genderstudies departments, and draw on work from #politicalecology, #environmentalhistory, #mediastudies and #culturalstudies. If it looks interesting, I'll give it a read. 📖
My university profile can be found at https://portal.research.lu.se/en/persons/james-white, and a list of my publications at https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6735-3893.
🩳 In addition to academic stuff, I will likely post about 🦄 #parenting, life as an immigrant in 🇸🇪 #Sweden, and my nerdy hobbies: reading and watching 🚀 #scifi, self-hosting 🐧 #linux servers, designing ergonomic ⌨ #keyboards, #foraging for 🍄 #mushrooms, and experimenting with 🍺 #fermentation.
You can find out more about my amateur #making and #coding at https://github.com/jimmerricks.
@FediFollows Moved from Twitter a couple of says ago. Maybe add me to the astronomers list ?
Hello science community, did you achieve something today you want to share? Everything counts, from "Got nominated for the Nobel prize" to "Got out of bed". ✨
@HolgerHellinger Your little company? 100,000 people? Hah, you think so small! :) Think Google running one. Think millions and millions of people. Now we’re talking. Yum! Think new proprietary features that Google adds on top that people love. Think embrace, extend, extinguish.
If you embrace the success criteria of Big Tech you will end up being replaced by Big Tech. No one does Big Tech as well as Big Tech. You want to build true alternatives? Embrace the opposite success criteria: go small.
