This afternoon I spotted an immature hawk in our yard, near the edge of our pond. At first I thought it was an osprey, but its call sounded like the adult red-tailed hawk we see frequently.

It hopped down to the water + took a drink. Over the course of 45 min. it walked/hopped to the edge of the woods. It did not try to fly.

Periodically I could hear the adult hawk in the distance. Finally, the adult flew in low to the ground and "led" the youngster into the woods, out of sight. 🤞 🤎

I just posted a new video with my solutions for mobile digital painting on GNU/Linux! It's not sponsored, about a refurbished 5 y/o hardware, and relatively low budget. 🙂

I am trying to be more friendly, so I am experimenting with engaging humans in conversation. Guy at the dog park talked to me about golf and Elon Musk. Experiment failed.

You want SKYNET? This is how you get SKYNET:

The US Air Force tested an AI enabled drone that was tasked to destroy specific targets. A human operator had the power to override the drone—and so the drone decided that the human operator was an obstacle to its mission—and attacked the operator. When it was expressly forbidden to kill the operator, it destroyed the operators communications net, effectively freeing itself to carry out its original directives. Greg Sargent & Paul Waldman: In a deep red Florida county, a student-teacher revolt shames the right

"A raucous school board meeting in Hernando County, Fla., on Tuesday night captured what’s striking about this new phenomenon. The scene featured #teachers pointedly declaring that right-wing attacks are driving them to quit, even as parents and students forcefully stood up on their behalf, demanding a halt to the hysteria."

"Things like this are happening all over. As Sarah Jones of New York magazine reports, liberal parents in states as far-flung as New York, North Carolina and Montana are organizing local groups, pressuring school boards and running for office to challenge the right’s education takeover."

Sometimes I've heard people say "oh that's just the kind of answer I was looking for!"

This could be innocent enough-- but I always think "but what if the most correct answer wasn't what you were looking for?" In particular what if the most correct answer is "No one really knows there isn't enough information." or "In fact, the thing you thought was true probably isn't"

I feel like we are hurtling towards a world where such answers will be unheard of things of the past. That scares me.

> I've already moved to snapless variants of Ubuntu and that sure ain't going to win me back

I learned my lesson with Ubuntu One and the Amazon Lens debacle; the people making the big decisions about desktop Ubuntu are not to be trusted. I've been using deblobbed Ubuntu for a decade or so, in the form of Trisquel.

See if you work in tech, make a point of spending time with folk who don't, it makes what happens in tech seem even more hilarious 👍🏻
