@zleap That's not blocking them, is just avoiding them to install cookies or storage at your computer.

Doing that, you are kinda a new user to them each time.

@zleap They're probably related, but I think the ones we have around here are more closely related to tree squirrels.

This is the iNat observation for the California Ground Squirrel I saw, just before I startled it trying to move closer for a better photo:

And a few minutes of wiki-walking turns up that ground squirrels as a group do include chipmunks, so I guess the better answer is that they overlap, but this particular one wasn't a chipmunk!

I'm currently writing a #guide on how to set up your own #Fediverse instance using a #Hetzner cloud, getting a domain from #Contabo and using #YunoHost.

This guide will be directed at total beginners, with no prior knowledge necessary.

I really like writing guides. 🙂

Choice is a good thing,, there is something for beginners to advanced users. Problem is no one can agree on what to suggest for any given situation.

I use Debian but would probably recommend Mint to beginners, then help people transition to a full free software system where closed firmware isn't needed, tis is not easy sometimes you 'just need' closed firmware.

We need to understand the needs of that user and suggest accordingly.

Recent talk on direction of #mastodon are not what's most relevant for our #fediverse future.

Decisions of an individual #foss project are theirs to make. More important is where fedi as a whole is headed to.

A "Tragedy of the Commons" is at play. #TheFediverseChallenge is to remain relevant and healthy far into the future.

Individualism only gets us so far, but for Mastodon and other federated projects their choices are understandable.

But only teamplayers will win!
