High school students tend to get more motivated over time

sciencedaily.com/releases/2021

Interesting passage from this

"But a new study that followed more than 1,600 students over two years found that students' academic motivation often did change -- and usually for the better.

Results showed that increasing students' sense of "belongingness" in school was one key way of increasing academic motivation."

So I wonder if this applies to fedi and what you were suggesting earlier, the more we feel like we belong here, the more likely we are to want to be part of the fediverse.

Dear developers, especially those working on free and open software: every new release is an opportunity to have someone discover your tool.

Make sure you explain what your tool is when announcing a new release and have links to where people can learn more about it.

I'm always looking out for pedestrians, & cyclists. I feel it's my responsibility as a driver to watch my surroundings.

Does anyone know if there is a problem uploading videos to @diode.zone peer tube instance ?

Just tried and the upload failed with 'Invalid token' ?

@zleap
Again (and publically), great work zleap on this #Fediverse article for the newbie.

You did a lot of the heavy lifting to get this article started, with others joining in.

Its concise but to the point.

Anyone printing this should be able to fit two or three copies to an A4 page, if they use columns wisely.

Well done and thanks again!

Apple is slowly boiling frogs on client-side scanning.

They got a backlash when they announced everything they were planning all at once so now they’re drip feeding it, hoping you won’t notice.

I helped my apprentice desperately achieve wired connectivity and a vpn router in his dorm by bridging wifi

he's currently on triple-NAT via WiFi and two linux bridges. since i needed graphical access and teamviewer sucks, we ended up having him ssh into one of my servers with the -R option, then enable screen sharing in gnome so i could vnc in via the ssh tunnel.

Who should control online speech? We tackle this question in the latest episode of EFF’s podcast, “How to Fix the Internet,” with guest @daphnehk: eff.org/deeplinks/2021/11/podc t.co/hQmKYT3FP6

Peertube.biz was unable to import videos after upgrading to the release candidate due to python version issues. yt-dlp errors out saying it needs python 3.6 or 3.7, no matter how many different ways I installed python 3.6 it continued to throw that error on any import attempt until went back to using youtube-dl.

Anyone considering updating to the release candidate should make sure their node, npm, yarn, and python are all high enough and don’t have multiple versions installed before running the upgrade.

I'm terribly sorry for today's downtime. We are now back.

Post-mortem:

Yesterday my hosting provider, Hetzner, received an abuse report for our entire IP due to a user account that apparently was used as a botnet controller. I suspended the account immediately, but forgot to submit a statement to Hetzner.

After 24 hours, the IP to mastodon.social was locked by Hetzner. I've reached out to them as soon as I learned of this.

At a digital event streamed worldwide, the Nextcloud team introduced the availability of Nextcloud Hub II, the third major product launch this year and the 23rd major software release!

The fact that Facebook processes 27 terabytes of metadata every second is Metametametadata

@zleap I went through your pad. it is nicely written. Maybe give them an example like email to illustrate what is federation. I don't think including license is necessary. Also, you can illustrate how the different service providers(in layman language, service provider is simpler than instance) on mastodon gives the users more freedom as one service provider goes bad, then they can switch the service providers. Also, Facebook outage type of thing cannot affect the whole Fediverse. @dsfgs
