Each new generation on the web needs to learn that there’s no such thing as a permanent web identity on a commercial web service.

The only long-term solution to maintain your identity is:
1. your own domain name
2. Your own website/blog
3. Several backups

Everything else is temporary. Your accounts on myspace, facebook, medium, twitter, google plus, youtube, tiktok, mastodon will one day disappear or become useless.

You don’t have a "community" on those websites. Only ephemeral discussions.

We're wrestling power away from the billionaire class, in real time.

This is bigger than some technical standard.

This is cultural, political, and economic.

We represent an existential threat to the business model of some of the most wealthy corporations on the planet, and I'll be damned if I'm going to let anyone take that away from us without fighting against it with everything I have.

We are standing on the precipice of a transformative shift in the way we, as a society, relate to one another through the internet.

We are moving away from a Broadcast and Toward a conversation.

Really hoping someone sets up a UK railways server, I'd happily donate.

A lot of us moved our blogging to places like Twitter, because it was convenient and easier to be seen.

If this meltdown leads people to going back to their blogs, or at least learning the essential downside of centralization, that will be a positive outcome.

More than half of this has occurred since 1990.

We are transforming the Earth and the atmosphere on a truly massive scale.

Reforestation, and other natural solutions, will never match the scale of the problem without substantial emissions reductions.
