I have tracked anti-trans legislation for 3 years. Every day, people have asked me where to move or how at risk they are in their state.
So I created the anti-trans legislative risk map.
This is my final map of 2022.

Hi, I'm a biochemist enthusiastic about #enzymes, #biocatalysis and #ProteinEngineering & #ProteinEvolution.
I did my PhD with Florian Hollfelder at the #UniversityofCambridge working on #DirectedEvolution of enzymes using droplet #microfluidics. Currently, I am doing a postdoc at #ETHZurich, studying which properties determine a protein’s innovability towards new function.
Looking forward to learning about cool preprints/papers and finding a lively scientific community here!

I love reading eBooks. I love being able to put them in dark mode, increase or decrease the fonts, and I've been using the "OpeDyslexic" font in my Libby app which I believe helps me read faster.
At random intervals, my Linux installation randomly reboots!
Cancer vaccines are showing promise. Here’s how they work.
The immediate goal is to create vaccines that destroy cancer cells—but some scientists are also testing vaccines that might prevent someone from developing cancer.
Cancer vaccines are potential therapies for treating people who already have cancer. These treatments have been years in the making, and failures have been frequent, but they’re now starting to show some promise.
Meanwhile, on a recent flight to Europe, flying over the Netherlands and Germany, I couldn’t find any areas of open land in which there weren’t wind turbines. They were clustered near every small town and outside of large ones. You could casually see how these countries have decided to opt for a decarbonized future.
If you’re planning end-of-the-year donations, please consider supporting the conservation of some 8,000 children' shoes that testify about the fate of the youngest victims of Auschwitz.

@zleap We could probably just add that functionality to the fediverse.
For #FollowFriday I want to share these beautiful drawings that @joelpedersenarts did of Button! Joel makes wonderful art and is a wonderful person. Highly recommend following and checking out what he has to offer!
It's very disturbing that any entity that invested $250m in #Twitter gets “confidential company information” when those investors are Middle Eastern dictatorships with a history of using it as a hunting ground for dissidents to arrest and torture.
#FreeSpeech right?

"we must move past simply comparing how many PhDs one 'side' of the argument has and instead find ways of presenting the analysis of the evidence in a way that is more accessible to everyone so they might more accurately see the reality of the situation."
Mastodon—and the pros and cons of moving beyond Big Tech gatekeepers
This is great article about the Fediverse, focusing mostly on Mastodon and ActivityPub.
If you were saying "I want to know how this all works, but I don't want to get bogged down in minutia" then this is for you.

Everything is a content moderation problem. I subscribe to an overnight oats mail-order service that has a lot of cool flavors. The company has a *very* loyal 14k-member Facebook group that is perhaps a bit too passionate about oats. People suggest new oat flavors and face insane ad hominem attacks that you don't even see on political boards. Somehow there is a furious debate about illegal drugs. This poor company is spending a ton of time on moderation rather than...I don't know, making oats.
