Serving Tory Minister suggests he may not vote Conservative tomorrow after Sunak wheels out disgraced Boris Johnson in a last, desperate bid to avoid total electoral annihilation.

Which is nice.

MAGA pastor says Ten Commandments in schools will stop teachers from “raping” kids. "It's obviously worked in churches!" one person responded.

Oh, that's a nice way to start the day. I have just found out my latest paper is published.

Probably not my greatest publication of all time: just a secondary analysis of a previously published study.

But still, nice to see it published.

WTF ... Even taking into account that the volume has >5000 pages. Btw., the library license is 8000, so it's not just a printed version.

(Disclaimer: I was asked to edit one of the sub-volumes but stepped back after the initial choice of contributors due to being too busy with a new job + over disagreements with the publisher rules.)

[You should be able to find most of the articles on ArXiv, some are absolutely great!]

Fun fact: it turns out it doesn't matter if you have a 2.4 gigapixel camera if you LEAVE THE LENSCAP ON

@zleap @ChrisMayLA6 Unfortunately, I think this is a win-win situation for RN.

If they win enough of the runoff contests, they can form the new government with their smaller allies - but if they don't, then RN will spend the next three years complaining about a leftist conspiracy to thwart the 'will of the people'.

It's an ugly situation whichever way you look at it.

"Wirikuta is the most important sacred place for the Indigenous Wixárika people in the state of San Luis Potosí, Mexico.

In 2010, the communities discovered that mining companies were threatening this place, which is of great importance for biodiversity and culture.

Since then, they have been fighting a legal battle to expel the 78 contracts threatening the site’s existence.

Finally, great news!

„The Good Law Project’s interim head of legal, Jennine Walker, said: “This is a sensational victory. It gives us stronger legal tools to turn the tide on the sewage scandal and hold water companies to account, after repeated failures from our toothless and underfunded regulators.”

We have a job opening for a Technology Assessor.
A core part of the work is to review incoming applications to our grant programs & to support the teams throughout the project lifecycle.

The role is either for an all-rounder (a tech savvy generalist), or a domain expert on one of our key areas (such as open hardware, cryptography or networking protocols).

If you're into free/libre/open technologies we hope to hear from you!

Students are studied often. Mentors, who have an enormous impact on the trajectory of students and the future of our fields, are studied rarely.

This paper dives into two interacting, understudied yet massively important factors in STEM education: the experiences of undergrad transfer students (a large group that is markedly more diverse than STEM student populations on average) and differences in how mentors approach these students.

For the month of June, I made a challenge to post a 5-ish minute video every day on #chemistry.

I mostly use this account to promote free software, but I have a degree in chemistry, it is my area of expertise, and now I'm in the second year of teaching general chemistry on the university level, so I started to develop my own style, and wanted to share my way of thinking about the basic topics of chemistry with you all.

@zleap Well, you say that, but given that he is strongly suspected to be the ghost of an MP from the 18th century and that ghosts can walk through walls...

Poor Tories. I think the stress of finding that after 14 years of shafting everyone, everyone hates them must be getting to them.

This one seems to have completely lost his mind.

I do hope that the good people of North East Somerset and Hanham will put him out of his misery on Friday.

One of my colleagues said his 13yo daughter started her period yesterday for the first time in her life.

My other colleague (45m) was horrified and didn't like hearing the word period.

So I talked about periods. And asked about periods. And explained about periods. And used the word period 7 or 8 times. This dude's got young daughters as well... Anyway.

Then we talked about Shark Week.
