Retro SciFi of the Week…
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
“I’ll be damned if I can find anything wrong with it, HAL.”
A viewing tip for those of you who have not seen it before...
Make sure you are not in a hurry when you watch it. This film progresses very slowly. There are no real action sequences or anything like that. If you're used to seeing modern scifi with lots of space battles and rapid cuts, you'll really need to slow down for this one. It's deliberate and pensive. Just think of it as meditation or something, and take your time.
p.s. - In case you haven't heard, this is the greatest science fiction film ever made.
@Pat
Great movie.
almost a spoiler...
Speaking of time (https://qoto.org/@Pat/108373770279886785)...
I never noticed this before, but I now believe that Kubrick's deliberate pacing in 2001 may have been to make the audience more aware of time, which was a key component of the message in the film.
I wrote that quote from memory...
The exact quote was, "Well HAL, I'll be damned if I can find anything wrong with it."
Also, that pic I found was not from that scene when Bowman said that line, it's from the scene when HAL was doing the crew psych evaluations.
