I agree, tht has been my thinking.
Thought more importantly for me the value of QOTO comes from the fact that it is one of very few places on the internet where you can interact with respectful, fact based, people who can have discourse on difficult subjects without getting insulting or childish about it.
STEM as a theme is just a way to get there.

On my alternatives post this week (12th June 2020) I am directing people to
https://joinmastodon.org/ that way people can choose the instance they want to join, based on their interests. My blog footer makes it clear I am here.
The invite link has been removed from future posts, probably not a good idea to make choices for people anyway in that regard. But it may not be working properly anyway. (not an issue).
Hopefully qoto.org can grow, and attract more stem people along side the rest of Mastodon attracting other people with their own interests. We can still all commutate.
