If the Chinese ballon is a spying device, why the fuss and panic anyway, people i n the US FAGAM as well as TikTok,& Zoom hardly tech known for privacy and well known for spying.

@zleap the lack of privacy in other countriea is a huge issue. But china has a history of some really horrific atrocities that even the usa cant match (though comes close at times)

@freemo

Yeah, indeed, and we are only getting little bits of information, thing is if people realise how big tech is working they would if they have any sense stop using it.

I know some places have banned tik tok, but doing that without explanation or providing evidence could be counter productive.

We need to end our reliance on china to build our tech and start building in friendly countries even if that means prices go up.

@zleap @freemo Spying is not the problem, it's normal to spy other powers. It is accepted. That's how the UN knows China is genociding the Uyghur.
The problem is with the invasion of aerial space, that's a big problem. Not really a problem for spying, they've got satellites for that, but place a bomb on that.
Italy almost started a war on the US for a similar violation, and they were even allies.

Who's we anyways? I'm quite convinced Chinese readers are quite happy to have their production in China.

@rastinza

Spying on superpowers is fine. Its the spying on the citizens that is the bigger issue IMO

You mean like the government tracking virtually every cell phone call that everyone makes and storing that data indefinitely?
