I found out that the OV sensor supports RAW formats and this isn't listed as a feature on the phone or included in the app. For an Android that got mixed reviews with the bad being focused on the cameras, this is very odd.

So the OmniVision sensor isn't the best available by it's own admission but the software cripples it. It has AI and other useless features built into the camera app. I used some tricks to get a RAW capture and it is so much better.

I'm working on this and it is already becoming less of a disappointment. The max stock settings make much of the photo look horrible and people look soulless. It made me think about how much better my Samsung S4 was with photos.

If you have an Android device that takes horrible quality photos, check out different apps for taking photos.

@thendrix I rarely travel. I remember being on a beach with my Pinephone Braveheart and trying to take a picture. I had to turn it off and flip the hardware switch to on to take a picture.

I had an S7 Edge and I got some good video of the ocean at the same time.

@thendrix I'm probably not going to get another laptop for some time. System 76 has done quite a bit of work.

@thendrix They are a good mix of durability, performance and portability. Everything else is absolutely awful and the price doesn't change anything.

Just managed to take a picture in a RAW format when it says that the camera doesn't support it. With the capable DSPs onboard, this doesn't surprise me much. What surprises me is how bad the pictures are by default on this device. I went through documentation and found a few OmniVision sensors and a Sony sensor. OmniVision has fantastic sensors.

@worldsendless It happened to me a few times because I like to custom compile kernels. I was able to recover every time. This was around 5 years ago so I'm sure it has gotten better.

It's 40.56C or 105F right now with 42% humidity so it feels like 113F or 45C.

There's nothing wrong with dreaming of a better world. Be the change you want to see in the world.

@LakeViking An air gun is going to need regular cleaning and care because of the metal fouling from the pellets.

@WashedOutGundamPilot @Nordy2 Can't forget a good set of hand tools and common replacement parts.

I didn't lose all my work when the power went out. I'm further ahead now.

That feeling when several hours of compiling work is taken out by a power outage. Welp that's enough for today.

@lucifargundam The project where AOSP is ported and modified by OEMs and they don't release the required source code.

Yet another GPL violation has come to my attention but I'm wondering about a likely violation. Proprietary code relying on a GPLv2 portion, that might be slightly modified, extensively would be considered a derivative work.

I really hope that this violation is on the GPLv2 code.

@thor That's good, I just pointed out how useful LaTeX is and a few alternative ways to get LaTeX output. I like what you did.
