Just FYI apparently has switched to the incredibly abusive and poorly maintained oliphant block list that is itself dictated, in part, of mastodon.art's abusive block list.

As well as the Admin admitting this is the case here: mastodon.acm.org/@wild1145@uni

very disappointed in their lack of due diligence.

My #FOSDEM presentation about #Wayland video offloading is online. If you are interested, you can watch it here: fosdem.org/2024/schedule/event

I'm happy about feedback, both on the technical side as well as how I can improve doing presentations :)

Yes, I read it all... ;-)

I am probably more hopeful that we will see progress (outside copy/paste-china) for all but the most compute intensive usages, i.e. embedded controllers.

With prices for custom asic also dropping quickly, I think there is a future for open source adopted by many non-asic companies, and a decent job market for people with experience in it.

We are now roughly at 1990 in software, long way to go.

The highlighted portion shows how algorithmic analysis works in financial surveillance. First compile a list of naughty behaviors, in the form of MCC codes for guns, sporting goods, and pawn shops. Then, create rules: $2,500 worth of transactions in the forbidden codes, or a number showing that more than 50% of the customer’s transactions are the wrong kind, might trigger a response. The Committee wasn’t able to specify what the responses were in this instance, but from previous experience covering anti-money-laundering (AML) techniques at banks like HSBC, a good guess would be generation of something like Suspcious Activity Reports, which can lead to a customer being debanked.

But is there any serious RISC-V that is "open source" licensed?

An free/open specification doesn't mean that free/open RISC-V implementations exists that are of high enough quality.

" is in a very tough business, and with RISC-V coming up and being truly open source, it can only push and pull so hard"

Fellow nerdicators... what do you use as a replacement for google calendar.

Most important thing is having something cool, unique, innovative, and just plan novel, not a remix... something special :)

OSS is a plus, and having a beautiful web front end is also a huge plus

Alcohol is called a solvent because it solves tension in the material and loosens it up. If you blend it with something else, this is called a solution.

A lot of mental illness is caused by people fucking with you until you snap.

@AmpBenzScientist They have systems like that in data centres. You want to leave real quick or you'll suffocate.

Still thinking about that one time when I shot a training video as a freelance gig, and later on, watching the footage again, I realised that the talent was probably drunk. He was so nervous about being in front of a camera that he got drunk to relax a little. It's like Nancy Pelosi. I remember watching a live broadcast of her on CNN and I realised she was drunk. People will drink to numb their feelings before going to work, so they can think logically and endure the stress.

The fire alarm keeps going off in this condo all the time. Horrible loud noise. Lots of false alarms. It's like a psychologic terror operation. If there is an actual fire in here, people will ignore the alarm and die in the fire. I can go and look at the fire alarm panel to see which apartment unit triggered it this time and if there's not any smoke coming out, I'm not leaving the building.
