@z428

And wondering to how many folks reality just looks and feels like that.

Not mine. Fortunately. I am lucky to be able to build a more colorful existence - so far. But I recognise the bleak world clearly.

@Mr_Teatime I really don’t know. You need to ask “at freemo at qoto.org” about this.

@FreePietje

@z428 You breath on me a mood of life moving at pace day by day without much change and excitement, just “being” regardless of human joys and sorrows. Like a slow gray-mood movie from 80s. A gray mid-age man in a long non-descript coat smoking on a corner in a cold morning waiting for life to pass. A housewife full of well-hidden resentment towards the smoking guy cooking a simple family dinner in the end throwing it in front of him and the children at 6pm. No words, and if so, just a “shut your trap” response. It’s not even sad.

What a bleak vision…

@pony See!? And some still claim the world is about to fall apart.

I couldn't help but feel that #XKCD 1269 was relevant to the #selfhosted #Mastodon #fediverse.

@piggo That is always an interesting search problem when I can describe the thing, but cannot name it properly. Often Google Lens helps when I have the object in reality. I tried to run it on your drawing and you would probably figure the term “crimp” from it, but generally it wasn’t very helpful this time.

@deshipu

@Mr_Teatime Hm, looking at it, actually Hetzner gives you a managed nextcloud instance for €5/mo including fileshare. Start exploring from the press release here: hetzner.com/news/11-18-nextclo Though I am not sure it provides calendar out of the box. You’ll figure.

@Mr_Teatime in ownc/nextloud you can do separate accounts too and share the calendar with edit rights to fellow users no problem. That would work as well. I think the key is stay in CalDAV and not mix it other stuff (like GCalendar), that’s where problems start.

@Mr_Teatime For one, you can just search for such. It’s pretty common.

If you have the chops, then a small Hetzner VPS for €5/mo would do.

Just from the top of my head, another idea could be to make an account our instance Qoto.org, it comes with access to managed nextcloud, c.f., here: qoto.org/about/more

@Mr_Teatime People then can use the calendar either from CalDAV clients, or import it into their own GCalendar of course, or use read-only as ICS view.

@Mr_Teatime You can use OwnCloud/NextCloud Calendar for this - assuming you’d create a separate account for the calendar and share the credentials in the group.

@satan That’s perhaps true in the UK, or the US. Elsewhere, I speak English, because it’s the only common language we BOTH know - and to the hell with the proper grammar, idioms and such.

@z428 Feels like a throwback to 1988 to the east of the Iron Curtain. Gray and sad world with an unconscious glimpse of what’s to come in a year.

@DrJackBrown

Most people don’t really want the Truth.

That’s why the humankind came up with Truth Social.

:blobrofl: :facepalm:

@BrynnTannehill74 What’s the point of entering a place clueless about its habits and screaming about how terrible it is? :blobfacepalm:

@piggo Well, the amount of pain is always the same. You can just choose to have it a little bit every day, or a huge spasm once in a while. It’s always a choice. Either way, it’s pain.

Anyway, you have sympathy :blobrofl: .

@moth_ball Maybe a helpful idea could be that you are not a single vector. You are many many things (aspects of yourself) evolving in different directions at the same time. With this in mind, it’s easier to think about relating to others. You don’t need to always seek fully like-minded souls. What you need is to find souls which are aligned along some of the vectors you are evolving along too. And that is easier. And I’d also say also more enriching: all the non-aligned directions of the other one (be it a friend, partner, colleague, etc.) become things to learn from - as far as the few mutually aligned directions are the important ones. I don’t care for finding soul-mates to be “one” with. I seek equal partners to share the world with.
