@LanceMason Toot menu, Block. But there is one that goes off here every night, and I have blocked it repeatedly, but it doesn't seem to work @freemo

@LanceMason @obi @freemo

How to block an undesired domain : qoto.org/web/statuses/10312657

And to block the local Bot that is sometimes overwhelming -- find one of the posts and select Mute. There's a few of them, by topic, but it will work if you mute them all. (done that myself)

@design_RG every night around 10pm this arv or something floods my timeline. I block but it doesn't work. Oh well

@obi You need to Mute the Arxiv bots -- there are multiple of them, so it might still show up if you don't go to each profile and MUTE them all.

I agree it's pretty floody, and have muted them all myself.

Do a Search for "Arxiv" - it finds 5 results, profiles here at Qoto; you can probably Mute them from the search results directly, I think.

@obi

Perhaps you mean the arXiv bot? If so that is actually 4 or 5 bots each for a different category that use the same icon. They are the only bots on QOTO though. So you probably just blocked one rather than all 5?

@LanceMason

@freemo @obi
No. It was that pro Trump "gab" community. ( Or whatever these things are called.) It was listed as a not. No matter. I managed to block it with your guys help. Thanks again.
Hey. What's the proper way to answer, or respond to, a toot? With the arrow points left icon? Or the quotation mark icon? And what's the difference. Sorry. Again. I'm new and just getting used to this.( And need to go read my tutorials again. Lol)

@LanceMason

If you use the arrow pointing left then that is the "standard" way to repond. It adds in everyone mentioned in the toot so it ensures they get notified of your response (usually the first name in your response should be the person your addressing and then all other names at the bottom of the toot are just CC'ed).

The quotation mark wont create a reply. It will create a totally new toot that links to the original (and on compatible systems shows a preview of that toot). It does not actually notivy the people you respond to you have commented and unless you explicitly tag them in the new post they arent likely to ever hear your response.
