@freemo It's Orwellian and Authortarian, exactly the thing most "progressives" say they hate. I don't get this instance thing when the tools to block entire instances are in the app, (web browser). Haven't checked to see if Fedilab has that option, but that's the way it should be done. Let the user decide!
A pretty inconvenient truth. The price of scientific visibility is paid with air travel and the associated damage to the environment.
Sadly, it looks like not even an ongoing pandemic can change this unsustainable privilege (after all, researchers of low and middle income countries tend to be excluded due to high travel costs and visa issues).
I think too that students fear asking questions because they don't want to appear "stupid". In reality other students have the same questions. This is my very first Toot bu the way...
I just had a light-bulb moment about academic assessment. I have worked on assessment committees at multiple institutions for a variety of purposes and they are near universally disliked and seen as the least desirable service work, and here is my unified theory as to why. Thread? Mega-Toot? Tootle-Wave?
