Nature is full of surprises. Meet Costasiella kuroshimae, an adorable species of sea slug known as “leaf sheep.”
At no more than 8mm, these tiny ocean critters graze on algae & keep chloroplasts in their bodies for up to 10 days. They supplement their diet through photosynthesis to create energy, which is why they’re sometimes referred to as “solar-powered sea slugs.” https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20210324-the-odd-sea-creature-powered-by-the-sun #nature #science

Really good article describing how to parse code from a custom language, create an ast, generate assembly and execute it in memory for a just in time calculator in V https://l-m.dev/cs/jitcalc/ #vlang #jit #ast

In some cases, it's from the mentality, "I never had that, so you shouldn't have it either." They resent someone else being their authentic self, while they themselves are still living various lies.

It depends! 🫠
In my AI & Machine Learning course, I have each student choose and read a book about the social context of AI. Here's the current list of options:

I'd be interested in your suggestions, with the following constraints:
1) It has to be nonfiction.
2) It must be no more than ten years old.*
Thanks!

*Every time I open this to suggestions, someone comes out of the woodwork to suggest that students read some Really Important book that was written in 1974. That may very well be, but they should do it in a course in philosophy or the history of technology, not this one. The world has changed too much.

Regarding recent news about mass surveillance directives in India…
“to help India defend against cybersecurity attacks, protect the security of the state and public order, and prevent offenses involving computers”
Seems similar with excuses lawmakers in the US make with “but this law will protect the children!”
Devilish
I thought "#compiler is allowed to do anything under #UndefinedBehavior" was a bit of a meme, but it's shocking to see it in practice.
Do is a static (local to this file) function pointer and it's only ever set in NeverCalled. So even though NeverCalled never actually gets executed, the compiler performs the set at compile time as an optimization and this is allowed because there is undefined behavior.

Note, however, that those women-focused WikiProjects are largely a response to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_bias_on_Wikipedia , so your suspicions weren't that far off.

What you're really seeing is that Wikipedia has significantly more women-focused WikiProjects than men-focused ones.[1]
For each "Wikipedia:WikiProject *", you'll find a "Category:Top-importance * articles", "Category:High-importance * articles", "Category:Medium-importance * articles", and "Category:Low-importance * articles".[2]
In the case of "Category:Low-importance women writers articles", WikiProject Women writers has assessed that an article in the category is "not very significant within the general study of women writers or literature".[3]
Meanwhile, there is no WikiProject Men writers, so it should be unsurprising that there is also no "Category:Low-importance men writers articles".
