Yea it vets darker and darker but by the time you cant see at all you are dead :)

The short wavelengths penetrate deeper, that's blue. But eventually no light can reach that deep and that's black.

However, some life can still survive that deep without light energy by just eating the dead stuff that sinks.

Yup, the water is blue for the same reason the sky is blue and what gives blue eyes their color. None of these actually have blue pigment but instead it is the result of Rayleigh Scattering

Also keep in mind the eye adjusts to the color better than a camera. So it doesnt look quite as blue to the eye. At depth it feels more like a blueish-gray and as you go deeper it just feels like a darker gray with a blueish tint.
