I think the most twisted mental gymnastics we scientists do is get excited / day-dream / imagine a paper about a hypothesis for many months or over a year, then one key experiment clearly refutes it, and we just are like "ah, ok. well that's science" and move on

These guys claiming they're reversing ageing using things that manipulate biological measures of "age" are the equivalent of someone winding back a clock and claiming time travel.

Ready for today's highlight? Who else is joining our virtual workshop at 3 PM?Looking forward to your input @R_Rahbari, @molly_przew, @GCrossan, @EvaHoffmannLab, @FTuettelmann, @mmisrahi_abadou, @JorgGromoll, @SandLaurentino, @Csilla44284153 !

This was also our first time submitting a ms to @ReviewCommons and not to a specific journal. It was interesting and overall positive and we feel like the reviewer comments were extremely helpful and fair👍

We're so proud to see this work published! A great collaboration within the @MaleGermCells giving amazing insight into gene expression along human spermatogenesis.
Congratulations to my co-authors and especially to @SiebertKuss for her first first-author publication 🍾

Some people are earning a lot of money selling "epigenetic" tests and interventions without any base in science. Jonathan Mill really hit the nail in the head with this statement.

Back when we were all mouth-pipetting

'The sugar alcohols and glycosides are found in nature, but all the man-made types (the first three classes) were discovered accidentally when someone in a lab happened to ingest small amounts and noticed the taste. That last pathway is not as common as it used to be decades ago - who knows what artificial sweeteners we might have missed out on due to lack of sloppy lab technique?'

@cyrilpedia Yeah, what these people profiting from "epigenetic interventions" tend to conveniently forget is that a lot of epigenetic marks are, on one hand, remarkably stable and resistant to change and on the other hand changes (e.g. DNAm) are frequently associated with genetic variation, not to speak of the effect of cell composition... but I digress, that wouldn't sell supplements and creams, now would that? 🤑

Wait a second, these are not real error bars … the author literally just put the letter “T” above the bar graphs 😭

"the secret scientists don't want you to know!!" Dude have you ever met a single scientist? My scientist friends are desperate for me to know about the changing mating habits of Brown marmorated stink bugs. They're screaming at the top of their lungs to tell you EVERYTHING.
