I'm interested in being just not civil, but excellent in interacting with others of different viewpoints in an online world where we can so viciously defend our echo chambers and be so dismissive of other perspectives.
Because this is less and less possible here, I'm largely offline and am not sure if I'll be returning. It was fun back when civility was a trend on qoto.

@freemo it may be that a homicide victim's mental health is to blame for them being murdered, though that's an assertion I don't know any evidence of. I don't know why the US murder rate and rate is deaths in auto accidents is higher. It could be somehow because of health care... But I suspect there's other factors as well. Boiling down all causes of death to a single factor (health care in this example) seems manipulative in itself. I'd hope that instead of immediately writing off new or not-my-bias facts as intentionally manipulative may cause us to miss helpful information. Recognizing that in myself is what led me to try to understand the views of those I disagree with.
I'd rather have a... Steel man (not sure if that's a real term, trying for the opposite of a straw man) of someone else's idea, and not just assume malice or deceit. I think that's a way of both showing decency to others and growing myself by considering evidence I may not have thought of in a Silo/echo chamber of my own.
@freemo my thought is : what other factors are others considering that may be valid but I simply haven't thought of?
For example, I just heard from two sources (one a person I know currently in medical school the other in the media) that life expectancy in the US could look a bad reflection on US Healthcare, BUT if you remove deaths due to automobile and homicide (two factors fairly unaffected by whether health care has been socialized), then Americans have the highest life expectancy in the world.
If I only went with what I thought was the relevant stat, I could have missed a different, more nuanced perspective.
By searching out the ideas of others I feel I'm able to learn and broaden the input for me to consider.
@freemo I find it's helpful to search for the opposite of what I believe. It's not helpful to defeat a straw man. We're all coming from somewhere, but it's very helpful to try to understand where others are coming from too.

How do you best convince us devs to document?
I'm convinced by the amount of time lost as a result of not having documentation, but others are convinced it's unnecessary overhead. Just looking to build a dev centric wiki of sorts for our system. Any thoughts?
@jeremiah I think it fits an agenda of replacing the family with the state, not sure that there's more needed than that. Shifting the power away from the population over to the politicians is its own reward. Unless you're the population.
@jeremiah the bill adds restrictions to who can be married (funny coming from the party that 5 minutes ago was preaching marriage equality and love = Love), but also says that instead of EITHER a judge or a parent approving for 16+, parents lose that right.
It may be an anti Mormon, but I don't think I'm in favor of politicians outlawing things just because they think that certain religious folks are weird.
I think this would be less of an attack on the family and parental rights if they just said you need BOTH parental and judge.
But saying that parents lose their rights because bureaucrats raised their eyebrows is bad policy.
I was just talking with my kiddo about red/green color blindness. I was about to say it means someone who can't tell the new green political ideas apart from red communist ideas.
But I'm not sure how many could draw a clear line to differentiate those ideas.
Seems like it's really more about removing parental rights and giving them to the state alone. All your kids are belong to us.

For a group that calls themselves democrats, try certainly seem to like creating new laws that are not wanted by the majority.
