Twitter may ban me for this but I willingly accept that fate: Your decision to permanently ban President Trump is a serious mistake.

The Ayatollah can tweet, but Trump can’t. Says a lot about the people who run Twitter. twitter.com/LindseyGrahamSC/st #Trump

Haven't been connected to the news much today - the last I saw was that Trump tweeted out a video telling everyone to go home, and twitter locked it so no one could re-tweet it. Is there more?

So... There's precedent, from the side :

FLASHBACK: Democrats object to counting Electoral College votes in 2000 and 2004

The last three times a has been elected president of the United States, in the House of Representatives have brought objections to the electoral votes the Republican nominee won.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." – C.S. Who would have thought that sand / dirt from a uranium mine would be radioactive?

A mere 2.2M tons of this material was spread across the Colorado Western Slope (mostly near Grand Junction). There is a dump near there that takes this waste - recently funded for another decade with the huge omnibus bill.

PS: Read about the prize for "Miss Atomic Energy" for a laugh.

@trinsec that's a bit of a leap. The virus itself doesn't make it worse, as we've agreed it's unlikely that people are killing themselves because they got covid.

The government response to the virus makes it worse, and I think it's unwise to assume that addressing a medical problem will resolve a political problem that's causing the increase in suicide.

Its sort of like thinking..... My spouse beats me because the dishes were dirty, clearly the problem is the dishes.

@trinsec I agree with how you ended this. I don't think people are getting covid then overdosing. So the cause isn't directly covid. I'd guess the driving factor is government response to covid. And if that's the case then we need to resolve that.

And there's no need to say we can't have a covid vaccine AND address the causes behind the mental health crisis which in at least this case is taking more lives than covid.

The post in replying to here references the new testament terms for the church positions that are present in the Anglican /episcopal tradition. There's plenty of online resources to verify all of this.

I'm fascinated that there's an assumption that this is old testament, when it's straight from the New Testament. Perhaps just a straw man because it sounds "too Catholic"?

Having studied church history and New Testament Greek in undergrad, I'm no scholar, but I'm happy to help guide discussions as I'm able and help clear up any straw men like we've seen in this thread.

@maxmustermann @realcaseyrollins @jforseth210 not at all, lots of assumptions without any biblical references there. I just posted the Greek from the New Testament for an informed response.

@realcaseyrollins @jforseth210

New testament. The three terms for church positions are below. The first two, we just anglicized the Greek, though we don't have a title of "episcopal" except for the bishop type church structure based on the new testament usage of these :

διάκονος/diakonos in Greek, we say "deacon" in English

πρεσβύτερος / presbuteros, we say "priest" in English

ἐπίσκοπος/episkopos, we say "bishop"

So priest in this sense is just an English adaptation of the Greek word presbuteros.

@realcaseyrollins @jforseth210 just got to church.... Our bishop is here today! It's a little rough as he can only move on diagonals....

@realcaseyrollins @jforseth210

That's something I like about the Anglican tradition... The deacon, Presbyter (priest) and bishop (episcopas) are straight from the Bible as the church structure is described there.

Elders acting like a corporate board room or congregational vote driven styles.... I'm finding harder to biblically justify.
