@dthompson

I noticed you are with Andy.

That's why I replied to @cwebber@octodon.social

I don't know personally and I disagree with him on MANY MANY things. Even when we talk about I think he is too moderate (and I'm a catholic Christian so you might guess by yourselves on how many other things I deeply disagree with him! 😉).

But the arguments of Andy are poor. As the arguments of the crowd that got is head at .

is a form of expression, so software IS freedom of expression.

Andy joined the crowd that lynched for what he WROTE (conveniently misreading it, to be precise).

If you know that Stallman did any crime towards women, you have only ONE thing to do: denounce him and provide evidence to the police.

Each day you delay his trial is a day more you are accomplices of his crimes.

I'm very serious on this.
There is nothing else to do when you face a crime.

If RMS did any crime, denounce him.

Otherwise, please, stop this.

@cwebber@octodon.social @dthompson

Smell like there are several power games at work in and in right now.

And since I've followed all the drama around ' mail and I've seen how a crowd of people lynched him for what he SAID, I can't say I'm shocked by this reaction from Andy.

I've read his words before and I see how he is trying to profit as much as possible from the shitstorm that is on right now.

> Open Source encourages theft
> I think we can agree that if I extract value from your labor, you deserve compensation.

What if I intentionally publish something that I want people to use because it advances my agenda? Like pkgconf for example.

> Money just is the medium for exchanging value, and without compensation, there is no fair exchange of value.

What about thank you notes, headpats, plushies and even cookies? Maybe I don't feel like I am being robbed because I refuse to contribute to open core projects unless I am being paid to do so.

> There’s just me stealing your labor.

Not if I voluntarily donate my labor to the commons (the actual commons, that is). At that point, any compensation (in the form of money, thank you notes, headpats, plushies and cookies) is just a bonus.

> The users of AzuraCast are stealing the labor of Buster Neece.

To the extent that iHeartRadio^WClearChannel is making use of his software, sure.

> Amazon is stealing the labor of MongoDB’s engineers.

MongoDB is an "open core" software that is funded by some of the most vile and cannibalistic vulture capital funds on the planet. I'll be sure to play a sad song on my violin once I unpack it.

> It’s a tragedy of the commons at planet scale.

I can think of many larger tragedies. Your ICE example, for one.

So, what's your guess?

@mxmehl @3rik @fsfe All I know is that there's far more code/features in all the browser engines than I'd like. I've looked.

the thing about blockchains is that they don't work *at all* in an off-grid scenario. i don't think there's anything to gain from excluding blockchain solutions from tracker, but they won't be in core because we want to have robust support for off-grid scenarios.

One could say that there is no link between pursuit and , and according to liberals and their / / theoretical framework there isn't any.

But statistically, groups that collect wealth just pretend to fight for freedom.

After all wealth is a form of and power restricts others' freedom.

So ultimately rich philantrophism is just a marketing investment. Or a form of corruption. Or, most of times, both.

's wealth come from companies that work in the opposite direction of what they pretend to do. So they align with their interests.

We shouldn't forget what is: a marketing tool.

They want to be confused with the built from the they marginalize, but they have nothing to do with us.

@bhaugen

I think there is an inherent flaw here.

We need secure and programmable distributed operating systems as the surrogate is insecurable and highly inefficient.

But no system can be secured if it mix data trasfer and code distribution.

Even just data transfer alone can produce weird machines. But any protocol or format that mix programs and contents is dumb and dangerous. People should always be aware of the difference between programs they WANT to RUN and informations they want to LEARN.

Even if code IS data and data IS code, their usage as code or as data should always be a conscious decision of all the human that it affect.

@ekaitz_zarraga

This is a great task. 😉

There are several tools there and most should be rather easy to port. A couple of them might actually be a bit more tricky since they manipulate binaries. But actually we just need to replicate what the go implementation is doing.

@ekaitz_zarraga

Ok I created the new mailing list at jehanne@freelists.org and they should activate the list within 24 hours afaik.

@pfm

I think people don't need the right solution (since nothing is right in every context) but they shouldn't have to accept the worse one.

My take is that we should follow a different paradigm: jehanne.io/2018/11/15/simplici

I'll do this tonight.
