@ajroach42 @lesbianhacker @alcinnz I wasn't very serious, but don't mistake my disagreement for incomprehension. We have email and file transfers; have had since the UUCP and FIDO days; and those things are not broken and are the core applications. I don't think needing new application areas is really the top issue for non-realtime networks. It is true that "social networking" doesn't seem well served by them but I think we might do better to just not have that, than to try hard to build it.
@ajroach42 @alcinnz @lesbianhacker Email is *the* core application of UUCP, and client software always used to support UUCP-style email addresses just fine. Maybe there are some new email clients that don't, but going back to the older clients wouldn't require all that much new software.
The Web, yes, is something we can't do without realtime networking. But it's basically dead at this point anyway as browsers have changed from reading documents to executing code.
@mattskala @ajroach42 @lesbianhacker And, by the way, I do like to advocate for transitioning back to a Web without clientside scripting.

Which browser is consuming much more power than competitive ones? @3rik presenting interesting numbers and thoughts on #digital #sustainability in connection with #FreeSoftware at the @fsfe GA.
So, what's your guess?
@eff ayup. It's not a question of "do you trust the government?" but a question of "do you trust all possible future governments?". If not, it doesn't matter what decent people are *collecting* the data now.

"With Category Theory, Mathematics Escapes From Equality"
"Two monumental works have led many mathematicians to avoid the equal sign. Their goal: Rebuild the foundations of the discipline upon the looser relationship of “equivalence.” The process has not always gone smoothly."
