For instance, we here at #qoto are on block lists for what seems like odd and silly reasons to me.
'Lower Moderation/Free Speech Space'. seems to be the answer there.
And I mean, okay, block whomever you want.
But isn't a blocklist like letting someone else tell you who or what to follow? That's what it seems like to me.
It's the shaping of information and it's very confusing to me because it's the same sort of thing big companies like Twitter do, just for a different reason.
Does no one really want to have discussions about things? Is Debate dead?
Are things like this just soap boxes to shout things into the void in the hope of getting an answer?
The more time I'm on Mastodon, the more I'm confused about social media.
This is really the first social media forum I've tried to be into. Most of my online internet socialization is with nerdy people into comics, video games, and role playing. MU* (Mush/Mux) based servers is where I do most of my online socializing.
Mastodon, Twitter, all of it is a very different beast than I'm used to and I'm very, very confused.
Growing up the way I did, it was just kind of expected to put your feelings aside and push forward. That's just what you did in conservative and very religious household.
So for a long time I didn't put much stock in the idea of self affirmations because it just felt silly.
It wasn't until I started figuring out who I was outside of that context to realize how valuable affirmations are.
It is a wonderful practice to remind yourself you matter and you are capable.
Because you do and are.

@Surasanji you know that brown cheese you get around the edges of baked dishes like onion soup. It is pretty much that, just brown "cooked" cheese with much less moisture and much more firm and chewy.
I discovered it last time. I figured what the hell let me try a piece of cheese and see what I get. It was glorious.
It's Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. day in the States, so that usually means white people taking the man's legacy out of context in an effort to push oppressed people to forget the centuries of oppression and avoid accountability for their continued complicity.
Before you start posting a bunch of quotes to impress your friends, meditate on the meaning of his words and the action they inspire to this day.
And reflect if any part of your life honors what he stood for beyond copy and pasting.
I feel like it's important to remember that things are better, but they're not where they need to be this #MLK Jr day.
Doctor King was a famous proponent of anti-bigotry in all forms. He was a powerful supporter of my people, the Jewish People. Likewise, many Jews at the time noticed the very real parallels between our history and those of black Americans.
I want to remind my often insulated American Jewish Friends that you are Jewish first to everyone who isn't Jewish. Black Americans know what that is like- being Black first before anything else.
We remain natural allies and should be supporting each other far more than we are. Don't forget the Ghettos. Don't forget the way the media portrays those who are aren't part of their mainstream.
Don't forget that we are brothers, because we know what can happen when a people are treated as second class. To the White People/WASPY Majority we are exactly the same.
Peace and Love to all my brothers and sisters who struggle to be recognized as the fantastic human beings they are. Let's keep moving forward together.
