How Vladimir Putin isolated Russia.
During Putin's initial presidential tenure, the Russian economy grew on average by seven percent per year, driven by economic reforms and a fivefold increase in the price of oil and gas. Additionally, Putin led Russia in a conflict against Chechen separatists, re establishing federal control over the region.
While serving as prime minister under Medvedev, he oversaw a military conflict with Georgia and enacted military and police reforms.
In his third presidential term, Russia annexed Crimea and supported a war in eastern Ukraine through several military incursions, resulting in international sanctions and a financial crisis in Russia.
He also ordered a military intervention in Syria to support his ally Bashar al-Assad during the Syrian civil war, ultimately securing permanent naval bases in the Eastern Mediterranean.
In February 2022, during his fourth presidential term, Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which prompted international condemnation and led to expanded sanctions.
In September 2022, he announced a partial mobilization and forcibly annexed four Ukrainian oblasts, together roughly the size of Portugal, into Russia.
In March 2023, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Putin for war crimes related to his alleged criminal responsibility for illegal child abductions during the war.
In April 2021, after a referendum, he signed into law constitutional amendments that included one allowing him to run for reelection twice more, potentially extending his presidency to 2036.
In March 2024, he was re elected to another term.
What is next depends on how much Russian people will allow, and how much financing he gets for his war schemes.

The second farm with slaves was found in a month.
In the village of Slava Truda, Rostov region, a farm was discovered, the owner of which kept 18 people in slavery. People were lured there by deception, offering to make money on harvesting. They never saw the money. Instead, they were sent to the barracks, having previously taken away their passports. Slaves lived in unsanitary conditions, forced to obey orders and beaten for disobedience. People were rescued thanks to volunteers from the Alternativa center and the police.
A group of recruiters acted in the interests of the owner of the farm. One of the victims said that he was drinking on a bench in Rostov-on-Don when strangers sat down with him, and then woke up on the ground without a phone, documents and money. At that moment, a farm recruiter was nearby with an offer to "earn extra money in warehouses" for a thousand rubles a day. Thus, the man fell into slavery. Later, he managed to get hold of the phone and contact the family. They called the police.
According to state controlled media, the farm was run by a 44-year-old native of Azov, Raja Limansky, a "gypsy" nicknamed Batya, previously convicted of fraud and kidnapping.
The farm with slaves in the Aksai district could not be the only one. One of the victims said that they had no choice but to remain subordinate to Limansky: "There is a gypsy highway here, it is impossible to escape. If you run away from here, you get into another company."
This is the second slave farm discovered in Russia in the last month. At the end of September, 10 people were released in the Tula region.

Russia warned Iran of impending Israeli strike
Hours before the start of Israel's air operation, Russia warned Iran by sharing intelligence about potential targets and possible actions by the IDF, a source told Sky News Arabia. According to the channel's interlocutor, the information was provided "within the framework of cooperation" with the Islamic Republic to "reduce the escalation in the region."
Thanks to the information received from Russia, Iran was able to prepare and reduce the scale of damage from Israeli strikes, the source claims. Earlier, the authorities of the republic reported the "partial" destruction of military centers in the provinces of Tehran, Khuzestan, Ilam and the death of two servicemen as a result of an IDF air operation, noting that air defense managed to "repel most" of the attacks.
On the morning of October 26, the Israel Defense Forces announced the successful completion of the air operation in Iran, which was a response to the "months-long attacks" against the Jewish state. As a result, air defense systems and missile production facilities were hit, but the IDF avoided strikes on nuclear and oil facilities, focusing exclusively on military targets.
According to The Jerusalem Post, the operation began with preliminary strikes on radars in Syria to "blind" Iran's air defenses. This was followed by shelling of Tehran and Karaj. The target was "key military facilities of the Iranian defense industry," including missile factories, enterprises for the development and production of drones, as well as ballistic missile launch bases.

Zelensky refused UN General Secretary Guterres' visit to Ukraine after the UN chief's participation in the BRICS summit in russia — AFP
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has refused to host United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Kyiv following his visit to Russia, where he was pictured shaking hands, smiling and bowing to Russian President Vladimir Putin, an official close to Zelensky said.
Guterres went to the city of Kazan, Russia, to attend the BRICS summit, where on the sidelines he met Putin — who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes. After his visit to Russia, Guterres had planned to travel to Kyiv.
Zelensky criticized Guterres in an evening speech on Thursday that marked United Nations Day, in which he said it is “crucial” the world remembers the goals and principles of the U.N. Charter.
“Even if some officials prefer the allure of Kazan over the substance of the U.N. Charter, our world is structured so that the rights of nations and international legal norms matter, and will continue to matter", Zelensky said in his address.
“The UN Secretary General declined Ukraine’s invitation to the first global peace summit in Switzerland. He did, however, accept the invitation to Kazan from war criminal Putin,” Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry stated on Monday. “This is a wrong choice that does not advance the cause of peace. It only damages the UN’s reputation,” the post continued.
Not only Ukraine criticized Guterres over his visit.
Guterres’ move garnered various reactions, including from Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, who indirectly challenged the U.N. head to step down.
russia provided intelligence to the Yemeni Houthis, who attacked Western ships in the Red Sea with missiles and drones earlier this year, The Washington Post reports.
The Houthis, who began launching these attacks late last year during the Gaza war, are now using russian satellite data to expand their strikes, with the information passed through Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Experts say russia aims to create instability from the Middle East to Asia to challenge the United States. The conflict escalation in the Middle East, sparked by an attack on Israel on October 7 last year, has drawn resources and attention away from U.S. focus on threats from russia and China.
"For russia, any escalation is beneficial because it shifts the world's focus away from Ukraine and forces the U.S. to allocate resources elsewhere,"
said Oleksandr Gabuev, director of the Carnegie Eurasian Center.
Since November 2023, Yemeni militants backed by Iran and russia have attacked over 100 ships, sinking two and seizing another. These incidents disrupted global trade, as some shippers temporarily rerouted ships south around the Cape of Good Hope, a longer, costlier path. About 10% of the world's daily oil shipments pass through the Bab al-Mandab strait, linking the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. Tanker traffic on this route dropped by 77% in August 2024 compared to October 2023, according to Windward, a maritime intelligence company.
Interestingly, russian "shadow fleet" tankers, including those linked to Kremlin-backed Rosneft, were also targeted by Houthi attacks.
