For those followers that I do not follow back: in order to keep my timeline safe and interesting I only follow those that I find interesting to discuss with.

However, if you follow me but you don't have an or full of , I will not know what are your interests.

So, please, take some time to introduce yourself and write a bio so that I know who I am dealing with :)

For those of you who joined this week, it may be hard to understand how bewildering it is for us who have been here longer.

It took me from April to November to connect with 300 people. It took from when Elon bough Twitter for me to connect with 1,300.

It took me since LAST NIGHT to connect with 2,700. This is bonkers.

We are so glad you are here and PLEASE don't turn this into the what many of us fled some time ago.

1. Dunking gets you no points here.
2. Claps/clapbacks etc. don't either.

Personally, I will mute or block anyone I see cultivating the toxic bits of Twitter culture here.

And to my fellow. former bluechecks: this is a place for conversation and connection, not narrowcasting and influener-ing.

Going forward, all tweets advocating two spaces after a period will result in temporarily losing verified account privileges.

@joshbdoc Yup, I am also thinking about having a DVS system. I already saw the RANE controllers and I got curious, but maybe I will buy a more conventional controller, I would like to broaden my horizons :P

But those are fire tho

@joshbdoc The thing is that going digital allows you to go share your mixes with friends, etc... pretty complicated to do with vinyl.

On the other hand, for what I have been told, starting with shitty turntables teaches you how to beatmatch better, as you have to fix the speed constantly 😂

@moofsoup @saintmartyn Actually I started learning with a course on Ableton. I only discovered because I wanted to do music on my laptop.

However, it ended being more than that, I fell in love with the software.

@joshbdoc haha yeah, but it's only a start, I don't have Technics turntables unfortunately.

I think that people should more, is so SO satisfying to beatmatch on those killers

@saintmartyn Thank you so much 🥰 your words encourage me.

I am using , which is pretty similar to :)

For the new guys here, I can explain Mastodon.

Mastodon is a high school where the nerds, the sports guys, the mean girls, the popular students and the teachers are all speaking with each other.

The Federated timeline is like the cafeteria, where everyone talks together.

The Local timeline is the toilet rooms, where the members of a group talk to each other in the same group.

And the Fediverse is an ensemble of independently hosted servers that use web publishing protocols in order to communicate between each other by using decentralized methods of communication.

Easy to understand 🤷‍♂️

Academics, I am BEGGING YOU when you move on to a new uni please for the love of god leave a forwarding email!

Y'all all moving to a new uni every 5 seconds and your old email just dies. It's probably cleansing, like when a force quit closes 500 tabs, but I'm a tab! Please I want to talk to youuuuuu.

Wow, seems like a LOT of people are coming to the . Looks like the gamedev.place is kinda dying of success like .social.

Let's hope the infrastructure gets better soon!

@delunado Hello, welcome!

It can be hard to get used to Mastodon, so I really encourage you to explore a little bit more the !

This network works really differently from Twitter or any social media. There is no algorithm whatsoever, so I recommend you to follow many interesting accounts in order to build your timeline o/

You can look for interesting people by searching for , because you cannot search text in Mastodon. You can also check the "local timeline", which compiles all the toots of your instance (mastodon.gamedev.place). If you can deal with it, you can check the "Federated timeline", which compiles ALL the toots of all the networks (the whole network, actually).

There are many toots that explain this better that use the hashtag . There you can find many tips.

Do not hesitate (even, abuse!) following another people, as only toots and reposts will be seen in your timeline (nothing about "X liked" or "Y follows"...).

Hope it's not too much information :) Maybe you can work in an introduction and fill it with hashtags, so that people can find you! Check by example my own : qoto.org/@abde/109292877971637

@derickflorian Yes, I don't know if it's qoto or something global to Mastodon but I am also having problems playing audios in Firefox.

@MuldoonsRaptor Really liking it. I don't know if it's all the people migrating from Twitter getting really active but I have a LOT more interactions than before.

Also, each interaction is more meaningful and deep. The fact that looking at the instance of a person you can already tell what is its interest and what can you talk about.

I hope you find your way here in the fediverse, welcome!
