I want to be , I'm looking for a fairly well moderated and rarely blocked server. My current server is blocked by too many instances for various reasons. It would be nice if it supported rendering, was STEM or technology oriented and had a decent chance of being around in 10 years. Any ideas?

@ambihelical Are you talking about qoto.org? Can I see which servers blocked it?

@hartree he "heard" qoto was, from an individual . Maybe it is, but i would uave to look into it. I talk to and follow people on tons of servers. One thing @ambihelical will have to think about, if he leaves to one of these servers, and qoto is blocked, he will be in the same situation he is now, except this time won't have access to the one server whose focus he is interested in, STEM. Its a predicament I guess.

@obi @hartree @ambihelical
As far as I am aware of, the blocked portion is largely untrue.
Dynamic resources/stats in old link:::
qoto.org/@freemo/1051667745886

only blocks instances that attacks it's own members. Qoto _is_ blocked by servers that don't want to federate with those who defederate with others for personal reasons.

If you go to the resources, you can view the updated lists of Qoto is federated with. Mastodon.social is one of them.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I _am_ curious as to what servers are supposedly blocking Qoto. @freemo do you know of any recent events with our neighbors?

@lucifargundam @obi @ambihelical @freemo Thank you for the resources. Servers block each other far more than I thought, but as far as I'm concerned, none of those blocked servers look like they can deliver quality content. So I'm staying

Follow

The instance I was particularly interested in was democracy.town, I don't want to follow anyone there, but I could see it happening. But I've also noticed vmst.io blocks qoto. It's also not on that automated list, so not sure what that's about. I had to go to its github source to find it out. Neither are huge, but it is concerning that qoto is on any legit instance's block list. vmst.io is an instance listed on joinmastodon.org, and democracy.town was listed on a list of politically oriented instances that I googled, the only center-ish one there as far as I could tell. I was looking for a recommendation for a twitter migrant who tweets political stuff.

@obi @hartree @lucifargundam @freemo Sure, I know that, it is how I got here. Kind of my point. Why is qoto being blocked by another instance there? It's a little confusing tbh.

@ambihelical @hartree @lucifargundam @freemo you should be concerned with the creator of mastodon's and the most popular instance too, then.
Why? Because people are different. And instance owners can block any other instance that has content that they personally don't like.

@obi @hartree @lucifargundam @freemo

Sure I understand people get wild hairs in strange places. I'm just trying to maximize my ability to connect with people I actually might enjoy have a beer with, and that have relatively tame hairs.

If there's nothing better to be found I will be staying, I don't have any problem with qoto other than being siloed off from part of the fediverse that I *might* want to talk to.

@ambihelical @hartree @obi @freemo

Ahh, I see. Well, although Qoto is STEM focused and is on joinmastodon.org- if the said user wants to instead focus on politics, i'm sure there might be a politics-specific instance somewhere. Although I would like to believe such a topic would be find under QOTO, politics isn't actually STEM criteria (again, not a requirement).

If you do decide to leave, I wish you luck and wellness.
