@freemo Congrats! Are you at liberty to disclose what you are working on? I gather from other posts something AI related, but that's about it.

@freemo @trinsec it’s an option I had not considered, but will try for a while. Ivory does a nice job overall in the way dedicated well written apps can sometimes do.

@freemo @trinsec That’s good to hear. I noticed the lack of edit a while back. But the latest ivory has a new explore tab that doesn’t even show up. Made me wonder about the server version.

I’m not sure what the plethora of features buy tbh. Many do strange things on other clients or don’t work at all. E.g. quote posts are usually stripped out on other clients, long posts can’t be made with other clients, math render doesn’t work at all even on qoto.org. Last time I tried them anyway.

@javentous It seems on the whole a bit nicer. The markup is easy enough although tables are a bit more work. I miss the math preview I had set up for latex equations in adoc-mode. But math markup is much easier to read and write with typst. And it’s much faster to get a document out so it’s just a little less convenient.

I don’t use doom I started from scratch before it was a thing. But often recommend it to those that are emacs curious.

@freemo @trinsec A fork is ok I guess if it keeps up with the feature set of the original. Currently I’m seeing reduced functionality in my preferred client (ivory) I am assuming because the servers are diverged. So it’s not keeping up afaict. Nothing critical yet but wondering if this will be an issue in the future.

@10leej Not real sure how elpaca works, but I think the seq it is referring to is the emacs package, not the command line program.

@freemo Qoto.org is getting a little long in the tooth being apparently based on a mastodon version released in Oct 2020 (3.2.1). Any plans to update to a more recent base version?

@Adorable_Sergal I wonder what percentage of devs actually go to programming conferences. I’ve never been to one and don’t have any desire to. Also don’t wear hoodies when coding or drink mt dew so maybe I’m just weird. I may write code to end the world one day tho one never knows.

@peterdrake Counter prediction based on, well, nothing: Enough states will disqualify Trump to make it impossible for him to win. At which point Haley will get the nomination, and actually beat Biden because she's middle of the road enough for swing voters, and she will also appeal to enough indian-americans that are actually fairly right leaning if you're not a crazy racist white guy, that this will put her over the edge.

@AmenZwa I think there was a wrong turn about 1991. But I dunno, what would the new kids do without their electron apps?

@hmans I have to agree with the take, except that for certain domains there's C++, C, and maybe Zig. Even with 20+ years of C++ experience, I currently would prefer Rust for any sort of green-field project where C++ would be the historically best choice.

I realize this is faint praise, but oh well, how it looks is based on the taste of the early rust language developers in 2010-2015. There's no accounting for taste. Other things about the language and tooling make it preferable.

@noodlejs Oof, I wouldn't have been able to solder those either. I always restricted my designs to packages that had exposed pins. Those packages you have there really cry out for solder paste. Something that might work short of hacking a toaster oven to solder an entire board, is using a temperature controlled hot air gun with solder paste. But this isn't something I've tried, so I'm not saying it will work!

@noodlejs Curious about this. When I did do SMD soldering (a few years ago), it really only worked when I wore Donegan binocular magnifying lenses (5x). I also joke I also needed a shot of whisky, but that's not really true... There's also the solder paste route with controlled board heating, but I never tried that.

@carnage4life However the large sloping front surface means that pedestrian remains wash off easier than other pickup trucks.

@carnage4life Anyone who has dealt with some of those admins? I feel like this is a trick question.

Oh nice now has hashtag completion. Wish all clients had this.
