@levisan Yeah I think it helps. There's some guy in Portugal (I think) that has been using my email by accident for like 20 years now. I'm guessing it's pretty close to his, and I've gotten some pretty important looking correspondence because of it, as well as a steady stream of verification emails. I tried to get a clue to him via the 3rd parties that emailed me, but it didn't help, and now I just ignore it. I guess he wonders why computers don't work very well for him, but at least I don't get email from those companies after the first one.
This is such an öhrwurm

@birv2 I use https://github.com/astrada/google-drive-ocamlfuse I dunno if there's a mint package for it, but there's a ubuntu ppa. Never used rclone, so I don't know if one is better than the other.
@awoodsnet It's a thing. There are dozens of us! DOZENS!
@danielsreichenbach @mo8it so -j N will make it work for some N. Probably cargo should be a little smarter when system memory is limited and pick a smaller N and this doesn’t sound very difficult to fix.
@danielsreichenbach @mo8it how many threads is it using to build? I’m guessing the default isn’t one.
@antlers Was it this?: https://blog.burntsushi.net/transducers/
@bonifartius @cnx It's actually fairly straightforward if they are using FetchContent, there's a directory in the build directory (usually _deps) that holds all of them. If not I feel your pain.
Most of the problem with cmake after the syntax (which I agree is horrid) is the fact that it's a old project with a lot of things you can use, but probably shouldn't because they've added better things. And anything explaining the best things to use is a book you have to pay for.
@dpiponi had a fun one the other day. The passcode expired in 10 minutes but it took 15 to 30 minutes to arrive.
@jellycrystals What do you mean? You can still buy them.
@brokenix Pretty old news, isn't it? Drew doesn't want to change, that's fine, it's not Melpa's fault.
@azonenberg @cliffle I dunno, that particular person (who made the comment on hn) doesn't seem to have anything to do with consumer electronics, at least according to the links on his profile. Not even much embedded that I can tell. I think he's mainly just a troll.
@lukeshu @birv2 No it's still true, magit on windows 10 for example is painfully slower. Just barely usable IMO if you disable some magit sections. I'm seriously considering moving my development environtment entirely to WSL2 for this reason. If it was my laptop (it's work controlled) it would not be running windows in the first place.
@deech embedded
How come I only get recruiters from companies I'd absolutely never work for? I'm talking about the one led by the beady eyed robot and...well that's it, that's the only one that seems to be interested in my sorry old ass in this economy. And the universe laughs on...

@dpiponi that is weird. I remember a couple growing up. We were ready to watch somehow in various safe ways. Maybe it was school or tv news that alerted us. Must have been in late 1960s, 70s. Maybe the lingering space race was the reason I don’t know.
@zwol M4 always was horrible, and I say that as the original author of GNU M4.
The original Unix M4 was weird, and there weren't really any good explanations for why it was the way it was. Apparently someone at Bell labs needed a preprocessor and wrote M4, sometimes in the '70, for no other greater purpose than to scratch a personally itch.
GNU M4 only exists because RMS wanted GNU to have what Unix had, and while I wanted to do something different and better, RMS convinced me to do M4 first.
Seriously, in retrospect, #autotools itself is a massive supply-chain security risk.
It has normalized shipping and running tens of thousands of lines of arbitrary executable code without any safeguards.
Code that is so mind-numbingly awful that nobody will review it, and written in a language that is full of gotchas that are sneaky eval gadgets.
@freemo Any idea why I'm getting multiple poll end notifications? This seems to happen independent of the originating server, so I'm guessing it's a qoto.org problem. The latest one I responded to I received 6 notifications.
Old software developer. C++ developer by day, Rust for fun. Linux guy. Hacking on the intersection of #computervision and #neuroscience in my spare time. Fan of #SpaceX, but Elon, not so much.

I've been getting follows from some fairly dubious accounts, so I'm going to have to approve follows from now on. If you want to be approved, the bar is low, have some followers or a profile that checks out. Be patient, I may not check that often.
