@afouxenidis Are there truly no right leaning academics any more? Or, maybe you just don't work with any? Perhaps they are not comfortable telling you about their politics.

@prachisrivas

It is interesting to note the changes in university pedagogy since I finished my degree in 2001. I have distinct memories of having a social science professor declare that we undergrads did not have anywhere near the depth of understanding in the field to be promulgating our own feelings and opinions. Our essays were to demonstrate that we had read and synthesized the writing of people who had enough background to know what they were talking about.

Synthesizing a large number of experts into a short essay is something that LLMs are actually reasonably good at -- at least as good as college sophomores. It is interesting that as technology has acquired these skills, that students opinions and experience have become part of the syllabus.

@Carwil

@GaryRLundberg Wonderful news? Does this mean that they will not deliver packages instead of just driving by claiming no one was there?

"wistful" means full of wist.

but wist, of course, no longer exists in modern English.

so wistful is an adjective that has lost its noun form, and can only think back on it with a fond sense of melancholic loss and yearning...

@patmikemid @flexghost And how much do you believe members will put in the plate when they have no priests and the money the donate doesn't support the ministry or maintain the congregation? Do you thing Fr. O'Brian will work hard to take up that second collection when he's not getting a stipend?

But even if you wanted to you cannot make this work because parishes are separate corporations with independent finances who pay support to higher levels of the church. St. Mary's Main St. is not part of the bankruptcy, just the archdiocese. The archdiocese will have some liquid assets and investments, and probably has some office space, but they do not own the individual church buildings.

This is not the 15 c. where churches have feudal lands that provide income that can be taken by the crown. On the west coast 95% of all church revenue is from voluntary contributions. Destroy the congregations or even significantly hobble them and that voluntary giving drys up instantly.

@flexghost I'm always interested to see what a bankruptcy court does with church judicatories. There is a real Boat-full-of-fish problem in that the primary asset of the entity is the good will of the parishioners of the member congregations, and the judge must take into consideration how not to destroy the value of that good will while negotiating the settlement.

@jfdm May I ask why you felt the need to put this behind a CW?

One thing I learned during 35 years in education: it’s almost impossible to differentiate those who did well in prerequisites from those who did not by looking at current performance.

@georgetakei Point 1) Your belief that people who voted third party were at all likely to vote for your preferred candidate is highly questionable. Uninformed lazy voters vote major party. Third party voters have made an affirmative choice to not support either of the two major parties, and if a third party was not a choice they probably would just not vote.

Point 2) Do you really want GOP voters to take your advice, "Your vote is not a marriage. You’re not choosing a life partner. It’s a chess move for what’s best for the country and the world." Because a lot of them don't like DJT but think he is their best chess move. I think if more people voted their conscious in 2016 we might not have had the stupid orange monster.

Me: Oh, resources to do with creation and the environment, could be useful!

Me,10 minutes later: OMG, what did I just read?!?
I am begging #Episcopalians to just be normal. There is no need to re-write the Creed, the Words of Institution or the Our Father! Making out that environmentalism is incompatible with orthodox #Christianity is not helping!

@annsutton I had the same trouble over the weekend. I decided that I had pushed too far down the main quest line and gotten in over my parties head. I had to go back and do some side quests from other areas and gain a level. It also helped to position my characters in better locations before triggering the battle.

I am *SO* sick of joining #Discord Servers for everything and anything.

I do NOT want to join your server of 400+ people I *do not know* and have no desire to talk to because you wouldn't link me your GitHub or site directly or put necessary information in your README for a thing I just want to download and use.

Please, for the love of Celestia STOP doing this. IF your server gets deleted, that information is GONE. If Discord shuts down, that information is GONE. If someone doesn't want to join a 400+ person chat room, they're SCREWED. PLEASE STOP.

You people know that there are limits to the number of servers people can JOIN right?!

Sweet Luna's Moon! Seriously, just make an RSS Feed..! Put up an info page on GitHub Pages, it's FREE.

I miss forums you could browse without an account :fluttersad:

I've been stuck on the fight with Dror Ragzlin for two days now. I think I'm probably under leveled and I'm going to come back to it once I hit level 4. However...

I love that the Dror Ragzlin AI knows how to knock my characters into the spider pit. This is a level of combat AI that I just have not experienced in most games.

This really is a new standard for PC gaming, and I have not enjoyed a game this much since Skyrim.

In to disable the launcher:

* Right-click the game in your library and select `Properties`.
* Look for the `Launch Options` field at the bottom of the `General` tab.
* Add `--skip-launcher` and close the properties window.
* Launch the game as normal.

This is the most important game play tip for this game.

@ukuku this is news right now because it is and Autonomous Vehicle. If this was a tourist that mad a wrong turn it would never have come up. Human drivers get into constructions zones all the time when they are not marked appropriately. In that case we usually ignore it or blame the construction operators. The novel thing here is that and AI got confused not a driver.
