“Wait. I thought we weren’t doing that anymore?” If you believed the U.S. ended the practice of adjusting the clocks twice a year, you’re not alone. In 2022, the Senate passed the bipartisan Sunshine Protection Act, which promised to make daylight saving time permanent once and for all. But Congress failed to pick it up, and attempts to revive the issue have fallen flat. Read more from NPR about where the legislation stands.

PS: Please resist the idea that we cannot change our healthcare system in the US. In fact we came extremely close to nominating a popular presidential candidate who ran a campaign on just that!

Keep hope alive!

Working in today because I don't have the time or skill to rewrite a library in . I just spent 15 minutes trying to ensure that `replace()` gives me a new string rather than modifying the original. I'm missing functional purity.

My whole political position right now is, don't kill innocents. Don't kill children.

Don't kill them!! not with assault rifles, not in retaliation, not with bombs, not with lousy public health policy.

Do not kill them, just do not do it! Can we all just get behind this one thing.

If Joe were to die or suffer a medical issue which prevent him from running for president before the convention, who should the nominate instead?

@WorkingFamilies I’ve had a gun pointed in my face exactly once… by a police officer. Solving the violence in our society will require a lot more than just laws to limit civilian access to guns.

i think what's missing from so many narratives right now is that rampant and ongoing antisemitism does not erase the massive power imbalance between voices representing Israel & Palestine's interests.

antisemitism is painful and ongoing, but Israel is backed by the most powerful military, media, and state apparatuses on the planet, and has been for decades. acknowledge how this power imbalance transforms perceptions about the lives and stories of Palestinian human beings

When we talk about Palestinian responsibility in Hamas attacks, it's important to note that not only are half too young to vote, but no one has had the chance to vote in 16 years.

The vast majority Gazans have never been enfranchised in their lives. They've never known a government that represented them.

It's like blaming Afghan women for the Taliban, and then bombing them to make the Taliban do something different. We're just piling more pain on oppressed people without helping anything.

from the arrived at my door while I was at work yesterday. wrote this novel during Covid so I think it is fitting that I finished it on one day while I was stuck on the couch too feverish to do anything else thanks to yesterday's on-two punch of Covid and Seasonal flu .

Now the question is what will I do tomorrow. If the pattern from my last booster holds, I will still be calling in with a fever on Monday.

The FBI, NSA, CISA, and UK National Cyber Security Centre all recommend adblocking as a protective measure.

You'd never disable your firewall or antivirus because a site asked you to. NEVER DO THIS WITH YOUR ADBLOCKER.

That's the only pertinent point here. Everything else is noise.

I just want to say thanks to the majority here who seem to use alt text on their images.

It's made things so much better and it's not something that's happening on every site.

It's a little effort, I know, but it's noticed.

OTD, two major victories for the US in the Revolutionary War:

1777: British General John Burgoyne surrenders at Saratoga to Horatio Gates. The victory convinces France to join the war on the side of the US.

1781: British General Lord Cornwallis surrenders to George Washington at Yorktown (although surrender negotiations would last two days). The victory essentially ends the war in favor of the US.

I know I don’t have much reach here, but figured I’d try anyway.

I’m looking for someone to help with payroll data entry, Accounts Payable, and light HR work for a rapidly expanding hospitality company.

Fully remote. $20-25/hour.

if anyone knows anyone interested, please let me know.

@USConst_Amend_I it is important to remind people that your protection from government over reach is not a mere theoretical possibility, but a actual occurrence in places where speech is not subject to the most rigorous level of protection - even when those place are "advanced western democracies" like the state of Israel.

“If you're an oil and gas company, in a way, talking about hydrogen is kind of a two-way bet because if it works, then you're embedded in the hydrogen industry — but if it doesn't work, you've delayed the transition to the thing you don't make, which is electricity,” he tells Recharge. “So why wouldn't you promote hydrogen for inappropriate use? History doesn't repeat, but it rhymes.

Thinking about and at war, it rhymes with the United States wars with American Indian Nations during the 19th century.

What we witnessed last week was by Hamas was the parallel of Custer's last stand. Israel has a claim to their land that fits well with the nationalist religious zeal that was Manifest Destiny.

I suspect that over the next generation Palestinians will like American Indian be pushed into ever smaller and poorer reservations with little true autonomy, and that in 4 generations good well meaning Israelis will be starting their lectures Wil an acknowledgement that the land the are on once belong to someone else and was taken by force, but not really ready to go beyond those words.
