By 2030 it will take more than a day for communications from Voyager 2 to reach Earth. At its current speed it is gaining a light day every 27 years or so. It will take about 10,000 years for it to travel a single light year from earth. The nearest stars are six times as far.
I bought an expensive #EV in 2018. At the time, I calculated it would have taken almost 15 years to recoup the price differential to a similar #ICE (gas) #vehicle.
Days away from my car's 5th birthday, I ran the calculation again. Inflation adjusted (in all ways), I am only one year away from recouping that cost diff.
$35 a month in electricity to run my car. $18,000 saved in gas and maintenance in 6 years.
That is wild.
I am gong to start a #turkey #flamewar:
Ignore the [Dry Turkey Squad](https://www.fda.gov/food) and keep breast meat just under 160 F. to do this you will need to pull that bird at no hotter than 155. It will bounce at least 5 degrees. Let the Turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving and serving.
The worst thing you can do is trust that stupid pop out thermometer many turkeys come with. It is "set for 175 because it has an accuracy of +/- 10 degrees and it cannot ever go off lower than 165 (see aforementioned Dry Turkey Squad).
Finally cook your Turkey "upside down" with the Legs and thighs facing the top of the oven. Thigh meat will still be juicy at 170 and doesn't suffer as much from the high thermal radiation from the top of the oven. If presentation is critical turn it over for the last 15 minutes and coat liberally with butter to get the skin to brown.
I want to find some sort of a passive dashboard i can keep up in the office 24/7 but not otherwise use the display. Something that displays email notifications, calander, tasks, todo, weather, pretty much all the sorts of stuff someone might want to keep on display.
Anyone have any suggestions on a good software or app or even hardware to do this?
Behold the most fearsome and terrifying monster in D&D history....
THE DREAD GAZEBO!!!
I 3D modeled this in Blender and one of my patrons did an amazing job 3D printing and painting it :)

Oh my goodness. [Little Bobby Tables][2] is all grown up and has started his own company.

Oops, the price of eggs has gotten too low again. Time to manufacture a shortage. EggPEC to the rescue.
A hypothetical: Pres. #Biden needs a minor medical procedure between now and election day. He should:
Disproportionate force "with the intention of achieving a sustained deterrent impact": a war crime. IDF: 1 in 3 of those killed: Hamas. >6,500 are children💔.
WSJ: “Mon a snr Israeli official said at least 5,000 militants have been killed.”
Total of 16,000 Gazans killed so far, 1/3 men. So Israel continues to claim every adult male killed in Gaza is a Hamas soldier? Again with no follow-up questioning this unbelievable number.

@isagalaev I 100% agree with what seems to be @mitsuhiko 's main point there: that trying to bolt typing onto Python is not a great idea, and has led to *far* less readable Python, overall.
If you want a strongly-typed language, there are plenty to choose from.
#python #haskell
(I too don't want to re-hash all the argument for or against types, and I do know C++, Java and at least enough Haskell to be dangerous)
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, and how many times must the cannonballs fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
Yes, and how many years must a mountain exist
Before it is washed to the sea?
And **how many years can some people exist**
**Before they're allowed to be free?**
Yes, and how many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
Yes, and how many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
And how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, and **how many deaths will it take 'til he knows**
That **[too many people have died?](https://www.pbs.org/newshour/world/israeli-offensive-moves-south-in-gaza-driving-up-death-toll-a-day-after-truce-with-hamas-ends)**

#adventOfCode day 2 in the bag. I usually make it to day 12 or so before my lack of formal CS training catches up with me. Using #Haskell as usual because #Python is just not as fun.
Also, I did in fact use a complete Parsec parser today because I know I will need it on future days and I wanted to knock the rust off those skills.
Despite sensational media about EV fires, the data says EVs are much less likely to catch fire than their gasoline counterparts:
"The Guardian compiled a list of reported data sets from several countries, including Norway (the country with the highest concentration of electric vehicles in the world), Australia, and from Tesla's global fleet. In every case, the numbers are conclusive: EVs are much less likely to catch fire than gasoline or diesel vehicles."
