#HarvardBookStore in #CambridgeMA is my favourite bookstore, and their events are part of why.
I had a great time yesterday evening at the reading+discussion of *The Terraformers* with @annaleen! For example, I learned that a planet can have a molten core and volcanoes, but no plate tectonics, leading to the volcanoes making persistent lava tubes and staying in the same place over long timescales. I love #scifi with real #science

Este es un pequeño monocular que hice a partir de un binocular que era de mi abuelo, un Ultralux 6x. Una de las lentes estaba completamente arruinada y hace muchos años lo corté y adapté para monocular. Por medio de la técnica de proyección por ocular con el celular, saqué unas fotos de la Luna y salen bastante bien #luna #astronomía #astrofotografia #fotografia
FYI gringos, Latin American migrants are not "fleeing communism", they are fleeing the predatory economic policies that Washington has imposed on us (dubbed "The Washington Consensus"). Said policies have been imposed via economic pressure, coup d'etat, sanctions, murder or attempted murder, invasions or plain robbery, like we can see in the case of the Venezuelan gold.

Your #Android phone has a so-called Google advertising ID*, a unique number for your device. Using that, #tracking companies follow and record what you do on your phone, even across apps from different companies.
Luckily, you can now disable the advertising ID to make it harder for them to track you. We recommend doing this to everyone. Here's how it works.
*Unless of course, you’re using a google-free #LineageOS, #GrapheneOS or similar. :)
So apparently #SteamVR tracking runs just fine on #FreeCAD #SteamDeck. Reported by

I just worked out something great you can do with mastodon.el in #emacs . Using the Google translate extension I can now pretty much immediately translate selected text in a new buffer a message in another language on my Federated timeline. It has just opened up a bunch of new content, although some of the autotranslated Chinese posts can be hard to follow! Much easier than copying and pasting to translate.google.com in a browser.
I noticed one thing after a lot of people came here from Twitter.
People are using #hashtags a lot!
I have not used Twitter extensively and thus never got used to them, but here on Mastodon the use of hashtags is generally limited as well.
People generally add one or two hashtags at the beginning or the end of the toot in order to make it searchable.
People who arrived here from Twitter are using a bunch of hashtags, most of those are words inside the sentences they're writing.
Sometimes there's even more hashtags than actual words...
I'm not sure about this approach, it may just be me, since I'm not used to this style.
But I feel that tagging the toot with a couple categories at the end is better:
- it makes the toot more readable
- the categories are immediately recognizable
- you don't have to use specific words in your sentence just for the tagging
