After reading the book “Animal Farm” by George Orwell, I am wondering if intelligence is the main factor to achieve power?

There beyond what other factors are necessary to create the same conditions as on the farm? And easy is to apply the construct to real world situations? Like could one say that any group of individuals, if the conditions were met, have a very likely chance to achieve the farm construct.

Here's a scatterplot of health spending per capita (x axis) and life expectancy (y axis) in OECD countries. The lines represent averages.

One country sits alone in the bottom right quadrant due to its much higher health spending and below-average life expectancy.

One of the big mistakes people make, over and over again, is relying on technological determinism.

That is, thinking the architecture of the technology will preserve the topology of the network.

Mastodon is Open Source. It's built with open standards.

This is necessary but not sufficient to keep the network decentralized.

We're going to need social and legal structures, plus cultural norms, that counterbalance Metcalfe's law, which pushes the network towards centralization.

I will need to reevaluate the schedule for my classes and also choose some other courses. It’s already the second in the past week that classes just got cancelled or moved around last minute.

With the ever growing number of users and in the spirit of open source (FLOSS), one should contribute where one can. Thus I am allowing myself to be a moderator candidate after learning what the tasks are from @freemo.

For those who aren’t familiar with me, I have been on this instance before the whole twitter migrations (this current one and the one back in April 2022) to be more precise since March 2021.

Currently I have been trying to help new comers familiarize themselves specifically with Mastodon (both mobile and desktop) and further the fediverse.

Am I the only person who thought this was a caterpillar at 1st glance?

I used to not like facial hair, but it's growing on me.

Just went through the second week’s lecture in WTI, which dealt with random variables and its relationship to measure theory.

Now I understand the syntax behind /(/mathcal{P}(X/leq x)/).

After watching a documentary on I was wondering “what the problem is with bio fuels?” It seems like the biggest issue is that one is stealing landmass for agriculture. Although it hypothetical sounds like a good option, it really isn’t.

Now there is another promising concept aka “green crude oil”, which is the idea to use over landmass crops. The benefit there over is that its more energy efficient, less area/volume is needed, and it’s independent of the water source (waste water, salt water, fresh water).

The only issue like with any new technology is that there is currently no profit to be made.
