Am I missing something? Non-English toots keep appearing in my home timline. Is there anything I can do about this?

@bibliolater @trinsec i think there is a setting for that, or just dont follow nonenglish speakers.

@freemo @trinsec Thanks for the quick reply. I think the problem arises from non-English written toots using hashtags that I follow.

There is a setting in the preferences "Filter languages
When checked, only toots in selected languages will be displayed in public timelines". I do not think this working. I have clicked on just English as @trinsec suggested but I get quiet a few non-English toots.

In preferences>Other, have you tried selecting only the languages you'd like to see? It doesn't eliminate foreign languages as the users posting would have to define them as such too, but it might decrease the amount of foreign languages you see?
