@icedquinn asn.1 is probably (i don't know about and don't care for wayland) better documented.

> - Where you put them.
- What color they are.
- Do they stop when/if birds come anywhere near them.

these systems might exist. they might even work. they afaik aren't mandated here in germany, even if they are probably dirt cheap. the only thing shutting down turbines right now is "too much power generated". yet more turbines are build everywhere.

> - Are the types of birds in those areas not smart enough to avoid them.

if you put turbines everywhere, it's getting hard to "avoid" them. i can see three wind parks from where i live. with more to come.

iff birds are smart enough to avoid them, it still changes the ecosystem. those birds leave (or die) because their habitat is destroyed, plain and simple.

green policy doesn't care jack shit for environment in a truly ecological, the science of ecosystems, sense.

it's about selling technical solutions now. while the absolutely best insurance against the effects of any climate change would be robust ecosystems. guess you can't easily buy those of course, so they are unpopular.

> you seem to be fighting studies and evidence with vibes; which I don’t get into.

i indeed i don't have a study well funded by people with things to sell i can point to.

i came to be very careful with regard to "studies" and "experts" in the recent years. the politicians implementing the laws to permit building turbines everywhere are the same who hold shares in wind power companies funding the studies and experts which legitimize the laws. same goes for many other things.

@tyil ah, i think i really have put it wrong! upon reflecting, they now do skip out on the "for the weak" part and directly go to the "we have to destroy the enemy" part. that's what changed. they seem to don't even care about the reason anymore, just about ingroup outgroup. which is what they always claimed to fight.

@tyil oh, yes. i mean people in the population who previously said they just were supporting the weak and the poor. those are increasingly going full authoritarian, demanding crackdowns on anything they perceive as their "enemy".

wow, progressives go the full authoritarian arc right now that things don't develop to their likings.

@louis @freemo
here in germany (and i believe other places) you have x parties and after the vote a subset of them decides to enter a coalition for the legislative period. which makes them the government and all other parties the opposition.

@louis @freemo sure, if things get seperated into opposition and government you'll always have two groups.

@robryk @freemo @louis
> compute the probability (as a function of what vote you cast) that your vote will be the deciding one, and pick the vote where you like that distribution the most.

i'm not really good at math, but my gut feel says that this would get really interesting if everyone did this :)

@louis @freemo
well, if everyone votes in a two party system because they think others do as well, it likely will stay a two party system :)

i believe voting like this does act against the idea of democracy. the idea was to vote for things people personally want - not making a game theory problem out of it.

@freemo @louis depending on who you ask, yes. it's essentially the same argument as in the US: if you vote for some small party which lands below 5% (which are excluded from the bundestag) you weaken the "good" big parties which aren't AfD so you strengthen AfD who are evil nazis who will end democracy.

always reminds me of the famous osho quote: "Government by the people, of the people, for the people... but the people are retarded."
