What does it mean if folks from a limited server are trying to follow me?

Can they already see my posts in their timelines? (I know everyone can see by going to my profile page.)

What happens if I accept their request? Like if they are federating with a server that's suspended here would someone on the limited server be able to boost my posts to a suspended one?

Alright, this seems to be a mandatory #Histodon / #Histodons ritual: I'm a historian of African American experiences, the U.S. South, and of white supremacy and gender. My first book was on white (supremacist) women, class, and Massive Resistance (UGA Press, 2021: https://ugapress.org/book/9780820358628/massive-resistance-and-southern-womanhood/). Currently, I am working on 19th and 20th century transnational histories of Black concert dance (and could not be more excited about it :)). I do like it here on Mastodon, but the huge influx of people from Twitter means there are far fewer image descriptions than from even a couple of weeks ago. I’d love to tell every one of them about this, but quite frankly there are so many I don’t have the patience. I’d dearly love it if apps could block posts unless an image description was added to every photo, but I suppose that’s too much to hope for. I’m feeling really excluded from so many conversations. It’s getting as bad as Twitter.

@PaulaToThePeople just used the #fediUnblock hashtag, which I didn’t know about, so I guess I’m asking people to fediUnblock my instance because of the potential consequences of the aforementioned muppet’s actions!

The 88 in my twitter handle (@Skywise88) is for the number of official constellations. Now I hear it's also a number that racists use to sort of digitally wink at each other or something. Fuck Racism.

What happens if I change my twitter handle? Will I lose all my followers? Will I have to pay twitter 88 dollars? Will I raise the entropy of the universe, slightly contributing to its eventual heat death?

Sometimes I long for the expressiveness of Livejournal's (or more currently Dreamwidth's) icon system where instead of one pfp you have a whole gallery that you can choose from to match the mood of whatever post you're making.

It was a lot of fun to find and share little avatars with each other, and sit before hitting the submit button deciding who you were at the moment.
