Fresh #Introduction 📢
We're an almost 15 year old queer feminist collective that runs a bookstore co-op and social movement space in Southern Appalachia. We’re an intimately democratic project, operating without bosses or investors to create a hub for anarchist thought and culture. But we’re not just a home base for committed radicals—we strive to promote exploration and encounter by being a welcoming and accessible space for our entire community. 🧵

#FrameworkLaptop doings are going well; driver bundle installed great and keyboard and touchpad are behaving.
#SecondLife (well, the #Firestorm viewer) worked fine in a quick test, two-monitor support seamless, plugging in the Ethernet works. WoW is downloading at like 12MB/s, so we'll be able to test that eventually. :)
The "WhatsApp" "App" for "Windows" seems to have crashed hard enough that I can't run it again, but really that's #Windows for ya.
@rharang
real or pretend? :)
Unfortunately I have to stop actively working on #Metatext for a while due to health issues. I really wish I could implement Mastodon 4 features and squash every bug, but it's not possible for me to do so right now.
I know the app has become important to a lot people, so I'm open to a new maintainer who can carry on its values of privacy and accessibility taking it over if there's interest and a fit. Email info@metabolist.org if you (or your organization) are interested

My #FrameworkLaptop arrived! (A few days before it was scheduled to!)
I apparently ordered the "DIY" version, which I'd forgotten, but the DIY part was just sliding in the SSD and RAM, and was trivially easy.
For a laptop this thing is an absolute DREAM!
Installing #Windows turned out to require a Windows machine (mine's broken; that's why I bought this one!) and a USB key, but turns out my son had both conveniently to hand).
All going great so far! Hid #Edge away and installed #Chrome, now updating various "drivers".
Extremely funny to see "c:\Windows\system32" in the header of the little shell the drivers installs pop up.
More like System64, amIrite?
Could be! I am quite happy not to be using "the leader" if so. :)
@YudronWangmo @phartsy
Could be! It'll be interesting to see.
I can't really imagine at this point going back to Twitter to the extent I used to be on it, myself; in retrospect, it was been a toxic mess from before the muskyboi stepped in...
But maybe others mind it less, or really can't grok Mastodon.
@rmayemsinger @YudronWangmo
I’m following a ton of people on here but I only see posts from like 5-10 consistently. What am I doing wrong with my timeline?
Dear #fediverse,
I am leading a "Mastodon 101" session for the journalists in our #Boston newsroom tomorrow.
What would you like them to know about you and about this platform?
Yr. humble servant etc etc.
I would not actually be sad if most people decided to go somewhere else :) not everything is about size.
I would probably stay here.
There was a critical mass on Mastodon / Fediverse before the Great Migration, and I expect there still will be critical mass even if lots of people go back to Twitter or w/e. All good!
CIRA is the non-profit that manages the .CA domain. You can follow them on Mastodon at "@ cira@mstdn.ca" (*without* the space in between!). Here's a direct link: https://mstdn.ca/@cira.
Did you know that CIRA just announced an official partnership with Mastodon Canada, mstdn.ca? Details here: https://indieweb.social/@tchambers/109422106453822714
This is RIGHT NOW. @NASA_Orion is looking back at Earth and the Moon from distant retrograde orbit. Watch the #Artemis I livestream: http://bit.ly/3EBXYiY

I wrote an article diving into the statistics on far-right extremist violence compared to far-left extremist violence, and to say the least, it’s not a “both sides” problem. An estimated 75% of extremist killings in the US over the past decade are attributed to far-right extremists, compared to 4% attributed to far-left extremists — and that’s on the high end of the estimates for far-left extremist violence.

@phartsy You very seldom need to either type or remember a server name. Just type "#art" or "#rabbits" or whatever into search, and you'll see all matching posts that your server knows of; that will be a subset of all of those that exist, or course :), but it's enough to get started.
Then look at a few of the people who posted those things (on any server in the world, just by clicking), follow some of them, things that they boost (from anyone on any server) will appear in your feed, etc. Your network will grow fast! (And of course do look at Local and Federated now and then just for variety.)
At least that's how I've done it; maybe I've been lucky! Enforcing a single name across all servers would mean some Central Naming Authority, and that would make me nervous. It could probably be done in a safe way, but it feels sort of camel's-nose to me.
Is that because you use the Federated feed a lot? I haven't found that it's significantly harder to see things happening on other servers than my own. But maybe that just varies with server. :)
A consciousness somehow associated with matter.
Posting about culture, philosophy, politics, AI Art Tools, NaNoWriMo, Software Development occasionally, the relationship of consciousness to matter.

If your profile tells me nothing about you, it's less likely I'll follow you (back).
