Now seems like a good time to talk about how far-right extremists are using the Overton Window theory to force their ideas into the mainstream. The premise here is that today’s fringe ideas/beliefs can become tomorrow’s normal by shifting the boundaries of acceptable discourse. You do that by introducing people to more & more extreme ideas, so everything else seems reasonable in comparison.
eg, when “praising Hitler” becomes the comparison point, low-key bigotry suddenly doesn’t seem so bad. 1/

Abuse, PTSD, leaving Twitter (thread)
But enough about him. I want to talk about how all this impacts people experiencing his reign at Twitter as a traumatic event OR as a trigger of flashbacks to past trauma (or both!)
It may feel hard to disengage from the constant drama. This man occupies an outsized portion of people’s mental real estate. Some may feel glued to news of his every move, as if tracking his mood is a matter of survival.
This is hypervigilance. It’s a major trauma symptom.

Huge if true!
Have seen some lately that are like "you cannot share this contract with anyone" in the contract. You should be able to talk to other writers and talk about what terms are expected or reasonable, if someone insists on that they're leaning on already unbalanced power differential.
@Cullen18Cullen
Software engineer at Google: I write (for people!) all the time. I write design documents, bug reports, code comments, and feature documentation. All of them have to be clear and unambiguous for my colleagues to be able to understand and work with the systems we create.
We do have professional writers for end-user-facing documents, but there's still lots of writing involved in my job!
#writers of all kinds, I need your help.
Please take a moment to comment how you use writing in your profession. I want to show my students that all jobs require writing skills and effective communication. Mention your job title, but I will keep names private. And please boost, as I am still building followers. Many thanks!
He kept his underwear on
Hilarious.

Also in a mature power structure, it's common that you can criticize who rules, in specific ways that don't pose any real danger to the rulers, and that lend the system an air of legitimacy and openness.
And conversely there can be social norms against superficial criticism of the oppressed, that don't significantly lessen the oppression.
"To find out who rules you find out who you can't criticize."
It sounds like it might be saying something profound-- but it's really nonsense. (and often bigoted nonsense)
Who rules you isn't a secret. It would be much more glamorous if it were but none of us are important enough to merit such subterfuge.
One of the great privileges of power is the ability to operate in the open, because no one can stop you.
The more I think about this the more bonkers it is.
The work-for-income paradigm has been obsolete for ~20 years. You should only be working for like 5 hours a week, doing meaningful things. Unfortunately, your governments forced you to destroy your planet via 3-4 billion nonsensical #bullshitjobs instead.

If you need a bit of weekend reality escapism then take a trip through though the lovingly hand crafted soundscapes of Nakayama Munetoshi for Muzan Editions. It's a magical place where New Age vibes, the sounds of nature & the still smouldering embers of the hippy dreamy are catapulted by benign AI to infiltrate & slow the rise of commercially tainted virtual realities.

Due to a number of events in his life that were no fault of his, he ended up on the streets. Pretty much a tossup for me; easier to type on the laptop, but easier to hold the phone.

#WhoGoesNazi read this piece, written by the first female journalist to be expelled from Nazi Germany, #DorothyThompson she sets the reader up at a gala. Each person we meet is a letter of the alphabet. Which letter would you be most similar to? Your neighbor? Brother? Auntie? (Ps. I don’t know who shared it first, but thank you. It is so helpful to understand the human nature, & background that helps create the #Nazi).
